As with a number of Portland's local businesses, this shop is as large and thriving as any big-box chain store. But it's a personable, local place, with knowledgeable staff and a system set up to allow some in-store listening, and what's better, a strong base of support for local artists. They have a lot of new releases and a fairly extensive used section, although I rarely find what I'm looking for used -- I expect that's more because what I want is usually both obscure and popular, like agreeable music from the 80's which never sold en masse. They're also open quite late, at least 9 pm most days.
