Worst

The Boston Museum of Fine Arts just introduced this and I tried to use it (end of November 2010) in the new Art of The Americas wing of the museum. It has a touch screen, suppose...

MFA 5/17/2006

The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston houses a nice selection of classic and contemporary art. There are plenty of big names here alongside old artifacts. The contemporary art and the special exhibits change frequently, and both are worth visiting. Although it's a bit pricey, with passes available from the local suburban libraries, admission is just $5 and a bit more for special exhibits, which makes it a bit more affordable. If you're interested in a particular collection, call ahead of time, as it seems that the contemporary art wing is regularly closed for new installations. more

Free Wednesday Nights 5/16/2006

Most of us who grew up in the area went to the MFA throughout school on field trips. It's worth visiting as an adult, whether your tastes are classical or modern. You can relax with the imposing Asian statues, get a little freaked out at the Greco-Roman statues with missing body parts, and react on some gut level to the modern art. The basement cafe is where you go for cheaper food and less crowded bathrooms (in the hall). Free Wednesday nights after 4-ish, go early if you can so you're not wading through crowds of sketching, starving art students. Note: you still have to pay for special exhibits, even if you get in free. more

A fantastic art museum 3/7/2006

The Museum of Fine Art (MFA for those in the know) is an absolutely fantastic museum in Boston. They've got an impressive collection of paintings, sculpture, and decorative arts. I especially liked the period furniture exhibits. Make sure you stop by the gift shop before you leave-- the MFA has an unbelievable selection of handcrafted jewelry and accessories perfect for any art lover. more

A solid Art collection 2/28/2006

The Boston Museum of Fine Arts is a great place to visit if you're an art fan--they have a nice, diverse collection of art work, both modern and not so modern. They have a decent amount of sculpture, but mostly paintings. Their admission fees are fair, and once a week on Wednesdays they stay open late, and offer a discount in the afternoons and evening. Definitely worth a visit at least once. more
