Musashi Japanese Restaurant

I have been going to Musashi since the day it opened about 10 years ago; and, never have I had a bad experience. The food is wonderful - well prepared, delicious, and there is always something new to try (just ask for suggestions). Though not inherently Japanese, the kimchi is excellent; and, I have never been disappointed by the sushi...or anything from the menu! The agedashi tofu is a personal favorite. They have two daily lunch specials - one sushi, one regular. For the price ($8.00, I believe), you get so much food it seems like it should cost more and is well worth it. Prices are very reasonable for the amount of food and quality you receive. $7-$8 for a large bowl of udon or ramen; a bento box full of items will run around $14 for dinner, the quantity often leading to people in my party to take some home. It is a small restaurant with a very small staff (I'd guess 3-4 servers total with 2-3 people in the kitchen, including the sushi chef), and they can get -very- busy. Having patience is worth the results, and quite often my party has been treated to a small after-dinner treat, such as mochi, for our troubles. Even when I place a to-go order and wait inside, the servers are always attentive and offer both tea and water while I wait. All of the staff is very kind and willing to get you whatever you need. I always take friends and family here. It is a must and we always come out happy. more

I have gone to Musashi a couple of times and every time I went the servers were very slow. I don't mind waiting for good food however the last time I went we were served up a side of extreme rudeness by one of the servers. I will never go back to that restaurant and when I asked for a manager I was told there was none. There are many restaurants in the area with great food and this one has lost my business. I would strongly suggest you look elsewhere for your Japanese cuisine as this place is pricey and the staff will argue with you if you ask them to check on your food. I have never in my life ever experienced such poor service. more

Great food, it is a small restaurant but very homey. The food does take a little longer to come out, but that's because everything is fresh, I'd rather have fresh food than fast food any day. I have been to Musashi twice. I thought service was slow the first time (dinner) but nothing compared to a lunch take out I ordered recently. Musashi definitely needs to hire more help so that people can be seated promptly. There were so many people waiting to be seated for lunch. My take out order took longer than 40 minutes!!! No knife-tossing chefs and flaming entrees, just REAL Japanese food. Wonderful appetizers, terrific sushi and the prices are very reasonable. I have traveled all over the country, and eaten at many Japanese restaurants, but I must say that none has beaten Musashi's yet. They have the best sushi! The menu has a collection of traditional Japanese dishes (I am Japanese), that they are also very good. You will never see so many Japanese people eating at a Charlotte restaurant than at Musashi's for a good reason. If you are not into sushi, try teriyaki or tempura. The lunch special are good also. But don't expect to see knife throwing chefs, because as I said, this is an authentic Japanese restaurant! As I have learned from eating at many Japanese restaurants, the price does not indicate a quality of food. If the price is high, you are probably paying for the fancy furnishings and location. This is a tiny restaurant hidden in an out-of-the-way strip mall but is well worth the search to find it. My husband is from Osaka, Japan and says the food rivals anything in Japan. If you are looking for ambiance and a dinner show this is not your kind of place, but if you want outstanding authentic Japanese food this is the best in Charlotte. The sushi is incredible and all meals are beautifully presented and always fresh. The service can be a bit slow when they get really busy because nothing is prepared until ordered, but it is always worth the wait. Great lunch specials. This is the best kept secret in Charlotte!
