Sunday Brunch? No Thank You. 12/23/2007

After reading all the great reviews this place had and on the recommendation of a friend, I had brunch there this past Sunday. Yes, this was the Sunday before Christmas but the first thing I noticed was the extremely young staff working there, there was a pair of 20 yr olds in the kitchen cooking. The place only had a few guest so the four of us sat down and got coffee/tea and placed our orders. I was a bit alarmed when the waitress did not seem to know the menu. After waiting what seemed to be an eternity (someone mentioned that there was a notice ""Please be patient, all the food is prepared from scratch"") we got our food. Four orders and not a single one looked good, it was edible but we could have made this at home, minus all the grease. I had the steak and eggs, the steak was loaded with grease, the kind you get when they neglect to clean the grill top. Another person had eggs with an order of bacon, it came out deep fried and burn black. Waitress acknowledged it did look burnt and inedible, so they quickly deep fried another one for us. Funny how she didnt notice this when she dropped it off 10 seconds earlier. For those that received their toast (either mine did not come with it or she neglected to write it down) it included a heaping tablespoon of butter to go with it. Each order came with French Fries, which tasted freezer burnt to me. I would have preferred home fries but I guess the kids in the back assumed everyone would rather have french fries. When we checked with our friend that recommended the place, they mentioned the owner cooked the food the first time they went there but the second time they went it wasnt as good. Will I ever go back? Never. Pros: Very hard to think of any. Ambience was nice. Cons: Greasy food, young cooking staff in the kitchen, had to share the sugar jar with the table next to us. more

Worlds Greatest Place 12/16/2007

My wife and I ate at Munch Cafe based on the recommendation of a friend. The owner was cooking. The food was fabulous. They serve the juiciest and tastefulnesses Angus burgers that I ever had. The dessert was great and the coffee was hot and delicious on such a cold day. The best part was the price. It was a lot less then I expected for such fantastic food and service. Pros: 2 Thumbs Up more

Congrats to Mark! Sole Owner of Munch Cafe & Grill 7/17/2007

Just wanted to tell everyone that Munch Cafe has always been great, but now it is 1000% better since Mark is the Sole Owner of the cafe. Already the buzz on the street is how much the cafe has changed overall in a positive way. Besides the friendly atmosphere, Mark has added a lot of great dishes that are made fresh to order. He is also carrying Lemon Ice King of Corona which everyone knows is great stuff. He has always & stills make every person that walks into the cafe feel that they are the most important person in the world, and he is truly humble about it. KUDOS to Mark. I look forward to the changes that are going to be made in the near future. Pros: Mark is sole owner more

The Best Kept Secret In Forest Hills, Queens 5/5/2007

I have been a resident of Forest HilIs for over 20 years and I have to tell I can not believe I did not know this place existed . I had a cup of their coffee. I have to tell you that is was the greatest coffee I ever tasted. I returned later with several of my friends. Besides the employees being very friendly and attentive. The food was fantastic. I now make it my business every day to get at least a coffee. This really was the best kept secret. Pros: Everything about it Cons: Not big enough more

So-So 5/3/2007

This cafe is slightly over priced for its inconsistant food preparation. I have ordered from here numerous times over the course of six months, and the food has been less then average on most occasions. Too bad its the only cafe that delivers in the area. Sometimes not seasoned at all, other times overly seasoned, under cooked or over cooked, the sort of thing that just irks you. On the positive side, the decor is calming and has a homey feel. The desserts and coffee are the best part about the cafe. They always have a nice selection of cakes and the coffee is worth trying. The servers seem a little on the ditzy side, so you may have to repeat your order a few times. Pros: Relaxed vibe, good coffee Cons: Inconsistant food and service more
