We visited Mulan on a Sunday afternoon around 3:00. Great timing--only one other table. We were served by the apparent owner, an elderly Asian woman. Unfortunately, we had to wait over 10 minutes for her to return to take our order.\r \r We ordered the crab cakes as an appetizer. Not so good. These were 95% fried dough, with a spattering of crab spread in the center. Very dry and mostly tasteless.\r \r We ordered Szechuan chicken and Mongolian beef as our appetizers. These were decent, but again, rather tasteless; not spicy at all, though the menu purported both to be ""hot."" \r \r The main problem with the meal came on my second plate. I bit down on a mouthful of the chicken and was unpleasantly surprised to come into contact with something hard. I spat out the food, to discover something like a copper rivet on my plate among my half-chewed mouthful. I tracked down the waitress (no easy feat) and showed her the offending piece of metal. She took it to the kitchen, returning to claim it was only a bone. I said, no, it's obviously metal, and asked if we could we please have the chicken taken off our bill? She retreated once again to the kitchen. \r \r A younger, Asian man soon emerged and said the entire meal would be at NO CHARGE! He said they had been having electrical work done in the kitchen earlier that day, and that the electrician had probably just discarded something onto their make table.\r \r In summation, the initial service was spotty and the food was bland, but the ultimate service was above and beyond our expectations. Whatever you do, try to go to Mulan during peak hours, so as to get a ""real"" waitperson, and if you want spicy food, ask for it. Pros: Food was mostly tolerable Cons: Slow service, metal in food. more
