I've heard about trees getting this big, but it was so cool seeing them in person.
I can't say there was anything special about this place, other than the redwoods (what's *not* special about that?), but it is definitely worth seeing if you're in the area. There's a cool photo op where you can actually stand inside one of the trees -- at the base. I can't remember exactly, but I think the hole was made from a fire.
The redwoods in this area were spared from future logging in 1905 when Congressman William Kent and his wife, Elizabeth Thacher Kent bought 295 acres and donated the land to the Federal Government.
In 1908, President Theodore Roosevelt declared the land a national monument. The area is named after conservationist John Muir.
