Would not stand behind their prescription 3/23/2014

On March 15, 2013 I had an eye examination for glasses and contacts. For various reasons I did not fill them until February, 2014. (They did not carry the bifocals I needed and I buy contacts online.) The astigmatism in the new glasses was worse than my 6-year-old glasses. The contacts were horrible! It is blink and squint, blink and squint. I compared distances with a street sign. What was reasonably clear at 225 feet with the glasses was the same at 155 feet with contacts. That's four seconds to recognize a street sign at 30mph. Driving at night is the pits. I went to the clinic to see what they could do. The receptionist informed me that because the prescription was a year old (11 months 11 days =s a year?) I would need another exam. Therefore there would be no 'follow-up' of either the glasses or contacts. Also, she was quite certain that in 'the year' since my exam eyes had changed. That's strange...my eyes DID NOT change for the glasses but they DID change for the contacts. Is the receptionist certified to give advice about my vision? I was left to believe that the reason for my problem was that I waited 'a year' to fill the prescription and I would have to get another exam. Shame on me! Or was it because I didn't get my products from them they were not responsible? I wrote them a letter of concern and have received no response. I have, though, received a reminder that it has been a year since last exam and they are looking forward to seeing me again. Ya...right. Meanwhile I have $60 of useless contacts. Maybe I can sell the unopened box on Craigslist. more

Ripping off customers with billing practices 11/18/2011

Good: High tech diagnostic equipment, competent doctors.. Bad: I went to this clinic for an eye exam and new glasses. I made it very clear that I wanted to pay all costs at the time of billing to avoid "surprise" charges appearing at a later date. The clinic checked with my insurance for all of the charges that would be covered and knew what the coverage amounts for my exam, frames, and lenses were. I was billed at the end of my exam and paid the balance due. One week later I pick up and confirm all bills paid. Good to go...Six weeks later I owe an additional 50%.. Improvements: Don't bill people six weeks after services are settled.. Other: I offered to simply return the glasses but was informed that they have a 30 day return policy. They sent the invoice for 50% additional in charges 45 days after services were rendered. It was either pay or be sent to collections. Way to screw the customer.. more

Excellent new doc! 1/9/2011

I'm always happy to see new young talent attracted to the Bellingham area. That is exactly what seems to have happened with their newest addition, Dr. Koning. He was personable and seemed very knowledgable. Since they take my insurance, I hope to see him for years to come! more

Excellent service 4/7/2010

Brought my 14 year old daughter in! She loved the doctor and the staff was helpful and courteous! No long wait for us...in to see doc, fitted, paid and out the door in an hour! They also had a fun selection of glasses for a teenager! more

Not impressed 4/24/2009

The left hand doesn't seem to know what the right hand is doing here, and the last time I was in I waited for nearly two hours in the waiting room for my scheduled appointment! There's a hard sell, also, for some add-on photo of the inner eye that isn't covered by insurance. I need to find a new eye clinic! more

Good and quick glasses and contacts 9/28/2005

I've been going here for several years for my exams and puchase of glasses and contacts. I like going here because I can get my new glasses in about a week. They people are friendly and the doctor is very nice. The only downside is that they don't have a huge selection of frames, but they do tell you if a frame looks good on you or not. They service the glasses well and when there's been a repair needed you can walk in and most times they can help you right away. more

Good service....expensive 8/15/2005

I recently purchased a pair of eyeglasses from the Mt. Baker Vision Clinic. The service was professional and good, however the price overall was a bit much. All of the extras like UV and anti glare can sure add up to the total cost. The glasses took about a week to come in and I was pleased with the fitting and service. Overall this was a good experience. more
