My Singer sewing machine that I got for a graduation present 19 years ago, finally needed fixed the other day. Actually, had I not been trying to sew on a very heavy down comforter that was WAY to heavy for my machine, ti would be chugging along happily right now. But then, I wouldn't get to write this review, so I guess things work out, don't they? My parents bought me this sewing machine at Mr. J's, so since it was still in business, I thought I'd take it in to them to be fixed. The salesperson greeted me with a look of slight disgust, possibly due to the three children I was bringing in with me, but I got the distinct feeling that this salesperson was appaled that I was still sewing with a SINGER sewing machine that was 19 years old! The salesperson told me that it would be almost $90 to fix, because it is a computerized model. He said that it didn't matter how little they did to it, that was the price. I saw that they sold some used machines, and asked the salesperson how much a used machine would cost. The salesperson then showed me first a $900 machine, and then a cheap $450 machine, that the salesperson said, was far superior to my Singer. The salesperson also said that I wouldn't have the headaches with the machine that I did with my Singer. I repeatedly told the salesperson that I had not had any problems with my Singer in the 19 years that I had owned it, until I tried to sew something that pulled the timing out of whack. The salesperson just kept talking like they didn't hear me. I could see that the salesperson was not going to show me anything in my price range, so I told the salesperson that I was going to have to wait to get it fixed, since $90 was more than I had planned on. The salesperson then proceeded to SLAM my sewing machine into the case, throw away my needle, SLAM the cover on the case and say huffily, "Well, $89 IS what it costs!" The salesperson then shook their head at me as if they could not believe I had waisted their time like I had. I left the shop confused and with a headache. Thankfully, there was another shop down the road a bit that said they would fix it for about half the price. I don't have it back yet, but when I do, I will write a review about them. In the meantime, I would stay FAR FAR away from Mr. J's.
