Mr Handyman

The following is being written minutes after the incident. The following was written with accuracy and integrity. If asked, I can validate every claim. My husband has the conversation; so try calling me a liar again Mr. Handyman: * Three-weeks before, we hired Mr. Handyman to paint out exterior doors. Mr. Handyman told me they were PROFESSIONAL PAINTERS and I explained our detailed requirements.* I asked Katie of Mr. Handyman for a STATEMENT OF WORK in writing and Katie questioned why I needed that.* I never received anything in writing from Mr. Handyman. I should have suspected then.* Reader, a casual search online will prove 100% of the time that exterior doors must be sanded and deglossed before applying new paint. Painting over partially-sanded old paint will result in peeling.* I explained our requirements to Katie of Mr. Handyman 3 weeks before and after a reschedule, repeated them.* Katie would later try to save her [blank] by implying me to be a liar.* The "Handyman" arrived with a barely hidden RUDE attitude.* The "Handyman" looked at my instructions and responded, QUOTE: "I ain't doin' any of this. I have my ways. I don't do stuff people pull off the internet." * My Husband stepped forward and took charge, telling the "handyman" NEVER to command a client that you're refusing. Customer service means you just politely accept the instructions and continue work; even if you disagree with the client. * The "Handyman" went into his truck and SUDDENLY Mr. Handyman called to refuse proper paint preparation. VERY CONVENIENT timing.* Moments later, Mr. Handyman called to refuse & that they do not do surface preparations like sanding & deglossing old paint, only partial sanding of peeling paint.* My Husband got on the phone with Katie and asked how a professional company could claim to do exterior painting yet refuse proper surface preparation.* Katie avoided answering and implied me to be a liar by claiming they did not know my requirements. more

After calling two contractors that friends had recommended to me, only to have neither of them show up to do the work, I was a bit fed up. Apparently, my one day of work was not a big enough job for them. I am a busy person and do not have time for such nonsense. I picked Mr. Handyman off of this website after reading the reviews. I had also seen them on local TV once or twice, so I felt that they must know what they are doing. Still, I was a bit nervous, wondering whether they would actually show up, given my track record. Not only did Mr. Handyman show up, but prior to their arrival, they even sent me a confirmation email with additional information and called the day before to confirm! The handyman arrived on time, even brought my newspaper to me. He looked at the work, gave me an idea of how long it would take and then got started right away. I didn't have to wait for a formal estimate or anything. He went right to work, When materials were needed, he gave me the option of getting them myself or having him get them. Never before have I experienced a contractor who was so flexible. When the work was done, he cleaned up after himself. He showed me what I had done to be sure I was happy. I sure was! I had him take a look at some other things while he was here and plan to do that work next month. I really liked that I got to deal directly with the handyman and not a salesperson who I would have to pay a hidden commission to. The lady in the office I spoke with was friendly and accomodating. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised and now tell all my friends to call Mr. Handyman. I've never met a more professional contractor. more

Calvin was the workman and he was extrmemely inefficient. His work was very sloppy and time consuming, which is dissappointing because they charge by the hour! A job that should have taken an hour and a 1/2 took 3 hours and was incomplete! They charged me $300 ! When I called and talked to Katie, a company rep, she was extremely argumentative and did NOTHING to resolve these issues. Hire at your own risk! more
