I've lived at Mt. Vernon Plaza apartments for three years now and I cannot wait to move out of this building next year. It was fine for the first two years - cheap enough considering the location, but the elevators are always breaking down, the front desk help does nothing to keep out solicitors, lots of minor but manageable problems. However, the past 6 months have been terrible. My 7th floor apartment has become infested with cockroaches. My roommate and I keep the place very clean and the infestation has nothing to do with anything we have done (or not done). However management is incapable and unwilling to get this problem fixed. Erika Flowers, the manager who left about a week ago, was confrontational and refused to get an expert to come into our apartment to look for the root of the problem. Her solution was to get a cheap exterminator to spray insecticide in the kitchen and call it a day. She would not let us move into one of the open units, she would not let us break our lease, and she definitely has not brought anyone into our unit that has a clue as to how to get rid of cockroaches. To Rebecca who posted about the same roach problem, I completely agree. They continue to spray but it does nothing. I've seen other people post on this website that the building is infested and I didn't believe it until my apartment became overrun. Take my advice and stay away from Mt. Vernon Plaza at all costs. It's not worth living here and having to deal with bugs, incompetent management, and unresponsive maintenance. If you currently live here, it's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when - you will have an insect problem.
