Motel 6 Castroville

Artichoke Inn offers 27 luxury, soundproof, tastefully decorated\r The facility is old, but so is a fine wine. The beds and pillows are very comfortable. The room we stayed in had a small refrigerator, VCR/DVD player, TV, Clock radio.. I highly recommend anyone wanting a FRIENDLY, enjoyable place to lodge, to check-in at the Artichoke Inn..Owners are very personable and they treated me with smile, gave me directions, provided me with fresh coffe and breakfast. What else can I ask for? more

Very unsanitary. I had a rather long stay at this motel and the area itself is kind of run down. There is lots of gang activity in the area. Be aware of your surroundings if traveling through here. And I suggest you buy a high tech car alarm. more

It looks a little better on the website than when you are there, but the bed was very comfortable, the room was spacious and well appointed, and it does look good. We were in 105 which is near the front and it was quiet. We checked in around 8pm and checked out in the morning at 8am on a weekday. No coffee in the lobby in the evening and the lobby was locked in the morning. There's a hair dryer, wall-mounted tissue box, tub/shower, and all fixtures in good shape. The towels seemed new but were surprisingly thin. I noticed the nice curbside plantings in the morning as we walked to breakfast. I'd stay there again. There is no internet connection but the friendly staff directed me to the local library a block away, open at 11am, which has free wifi during operating hours. That worked for this excursion but wouldn't work for a business trip. I liked the area; safe, friendly people, several little markets along the street and a collectibles store. In a good location for visiting either Monterey or The Elkhorn Slough it seems a shame the management could not clean the rooms adequately. I found a slice of old tomato behind one of the nightstands when I went looking for an outlet, there was old food on the blankets and mold in the bathroom. The towels and blankets were actually disgusting. Our room had a lot of noise and light from the street. Basically I suggest you give this one a miss. It's cheap but it's not cheerful at all. more
