The Worst Dining Experience I Have Ever Had. 1/6/2007

Mosca's was a terrible dining experience. Reservations aren't ""allowed"" on Saturday nights, yet as my small party of 7 waited patiently at the bar for 2 hours, ""regulars"" were immediately seated. Also, if you're under the impression that portions are ""family-sized"" Italian, you've been sorely misguided. We ordered 5 entrees and 2 large salads, and several members of our party left hungry. The crab salad, which is rumored ""to die for"" consisted of iceberg lettuce, olive dressing, and what appeared to be extremely small slivers of canned crab meat. The spaghetti had two small meatballs, and while they claim the pasta is ""al dente"", it cracked when you bit into it. The chicken cacciatore was overcooked and consisted of mostly bones and fat. The shrimp was overcooked; even as a local New Orleanian I found myself struggling to peel it. The sausage was amazing- all 4 inches of it- valued at a whopping $19 for the whole plate. The only redeeming quality about the meal was the Oysters Mosca, but unless you're a 10-year-old girl, be sure to get the large portion. The service was dismal; our waitress took 20 minutes to bring water and then disappeared for another 20. I had to go to the bar and get the pitcher of water on my own. To add insult to injury, she gave herself a 20% tip, which was already finalized on the bill when we received it. Sadly, this place is old-school Southern Louisiana. If you are a regular, and they like you, you will be treated accordingly. Most likey, that is where it's amazing reputation originated, as you can see from the above review. If you are an ""outsider"" you will be ripped off. My husband and I spent $58 dollars this evening for the two of us, and I am about to make myself a bowl of Grape Nuts so that I do not go to bed hungry. If you are in the area and craving Italian, you might as well go to the Olive Garden in Kenner. You will save precious dollars and time. more

A tradition that can't be missed 9/24/2002

I've been eating at Mosca's since 1960. It's truley a favorite. Got engaged there, had my engagement party there and when my husband was dying of cancer, Johnny would bring his homemade Italian sausage to him. It was his favorite. It's worth the ride everytime. It's not fancy looking but don't be decieved, the food is awesome. Oysters Mosca and the crab salad are great and so is the sausage! Thanks Johnny. more
