I was once a happy customer of Moore and Son's and thought that I had found the best motorcycle shop on the planet. Yes, that's how Tom (the mechanic) made me feel. A super cool guy who would encourage you to maintain your own bike and was happy to offer advice. I, in turn was more than happy to bring all my business to them and offered rave reviews to my friends and encouraged them to do business with them because they seemed to offer the best, most personable customer service experience with respect to parts and repair related issues.
After a while though it was apparent that there was a strange vibe afoot.
Suddenly I was expected to bring him a bottle of booze every time I entered the store. Kinda like paying my 'dues' to be in his club. Then I was accused of buying all my parts online and using him to milk information to do my own repairs.
When I tried to point out the fact that I came to them first for ALL my typical shop/factory KTM related purchases and that I actually bought the vast majority of my parts from them, I was still snubbed with this ridiculous attitude!
It's a weird kind of drama (totally unfounded BTW) that is not unlike how an adolescent girl might act.
I have always come to Moore and sons to buy everything from tires to tank bags to fork oil. But if Tom (who I once respected greatly and considered a friend) happens to be gone to lunch and doesn't actually witness you spending money at the store, he assumes you are a traitor who never shops at the store and are merely using him for information.
If you bring your bike in with ONE new (used) part on it that you did not buy from them, Tom will accuse you of ""using him for information while doing my business elsewhere"". No matter that you have done $100's worth of business in a matter of months.
I don't have the space here to write about the final straw but I had a major malfunction that Tom's bad advice made even WORSE and his price to repair it was $1250!
Without hesitation I loaded the bike back on the trailer and headed down to Salinas to Pinnit Motorsports where I had never been before. I was comforted to find that they were a much more professional operation. I spoke to the owner who also is the mechanic and he quoted me $300 less to perform the same job.
I'm very happy with Pinnit. There is no reason why anyone should have to put up with the silly drama that M&sons dishes out. Go elsewhere! They don't seem to need your business anyway.
