Fabulous pizza 12/29/2007

Try the Siciliana- I ordered the ancholvies on the side- and it was a large serving of them- but it tasted like there where some on the pizza too! It was wonderful. The 11 "" is enough for 2 ( with an appetizer) or, as I did ,bring some home for lunch the next day. The crust was thin, the cheese not too much. I can't recommend it enough. Pros: great food, service, prices, ample parking Cons: non more

I was not expecting greatness. HOWEVER... 8/12/2007

I do not enjoy many Italian restaurants in general. I am first gen Italian. Mom from Abruzze. Dad from Calabria. Pros: Everything was wonderful more

I wanted to be impressed... but it wasn't good at ALL! 8/4/2007

The interior had me waiting for Joe Pesci to come in out of a scene from Casino. I wanted to like it, but... we had calimari fritti to start and all we could taste was the bland breading. The accompaning sauce tasted like it was right out of a jar. Our salads were less than inspiring and my ""blue cheese"" dressing might as well have been ranch. It was bad bottled sauce. Our entrees were equally less than mediocre. My wife had the scallopes special which contained a piece of garlic so burnt it was rock hard. There was little taste to the sauce overall. My veal was so thin I could read a newspaper through it and the taste was equally thin as the angel hair pasta was WAY overcooked. It may have been chicken marsala and I wouldn't have known as the taste was so weak. I hate having to put salt and pepper on a dish when I eat out, but this really needed it and it still didn't help. My wife and I lived in Italy and we've not only been to Sicily, but we've had great meals in NYC and here in Tucson at Gavi and Vivace'. We SOOO wanted to like this, but it just wasn't good at all. The Tiramisu for desert was decent and the capuccino and cafe' correto were equally good. From this I can only say; get the wine to go and save yourself everything in between. more

Just like home 6/4/2006

having a meal at Mona Lisa is like a meal at home with Grandma...everything on the menu is prepared with the care and attention of a chef who loves his creations. The eggplant parmagiana is what I remember from my youth in NY ..exactly the way grandma fixed it....I have never had a bad meal at Mona Lisa and never hesitate to recomend it to my friends. Pros: excellent food, friendly family, inexpensive more

We Love It! 10/14/2005

We discovered Mona Lisa shortly after they opened and we keep coming back as often as possible. The food, the service, and the people are absolutely the best. Coming from Sicily, after having a restaurant in New York for a time, they brought their brick oven, and their relatives, to open and operate the best authentic Italian restaurant in Tucson. This is a place where you are truly treated like family and where you are never, ever rushed through a meal. Pros: outstanding food, great people, good parking more

ABSOLUTELY THE BEST 7/21/2005

They are from New York City, they know their business, and it shows. This is the only place in Tucson where ex-pat NYC'ers can get a taste of home. There's nothing that they can't do well, and Mrs. Puccia, the owner/operator, is always around to talk to you like you're family. The pastry, cake, and bread is to die for. Anytime I don't want to cook, this is where I go. more

Wonderful family & Marvelous food 9/11/2004

Six of us were visiting from Scottsdale and we called ahead on a Saturday night. Since it was a small restaurant we were surprised that they held a table for us when they were packed. we were treated royally and the food could not have been better. This Italian family just loves serving you their fantastic food and pastries. I wish I could have moved them to Scottsdale. This was the best restaurant experience for the six of us in the last few years. Gives this place a try. not a great neighborhood but a fantastic, inexpensive Italian meal with a wonderful bakery right there. Pros: great chef, wonderful service, accept Entertainment Cons: , area wasnt beautiful more

A Work of Art! 7/29/2002

Excellent food. The fried mozzarella isn't cheese sticks, it's slabs of fresh mozzarella, breaded and fried. The lasagna is great and the baked goods are divine. Try the chocolate dipped walnut cookies and the cannoli. more
