This music store is the best! No high pressure sales, just friendly and knowledgable people there to help you find what you need and want. I have been a customer since I was a kid and have always enjoyed walking in and going back to a time when people listened to you and helped you get what you need to be a better musician. \r Its not the prettiest store in the world, but pretty corporate stores have to charge more for their fluff. \r I will go with the family business and real down to earth people every time.\r more

I dipped into this place about a year ago after getting breakfast at the Over Easy -- it's right next door -- and fell in love with a couple of instruments. I hadn't played anything since middle school cello, but the guys at this place were super welcoming and friendly -- they showed me how to tune, taught me to string my own nylon strings when I was ready for a new set, and showed themselves to be just genuine, good people the whole way around. As both a novice and as a girl I've always felt a little intimidated by music store guys -- but these guys are helpful without being condescending, and they've got a lot of great stories to tell if you've got the time to hang out and listen. They're also really talented musicians. Anyway, I can't say enough good things about this store. If you're looking to buy instruments, strings, supplies, whatever, in Fort Lauderdale, and you're not a fan of the ""corporate experience"" this is THE place to go. more

I used to live in Ft laudedale, but bought several guitars effects pedals, and amps from Modern. JT also did work on three of my guitars including installation of a Seymore Duncan neck humbuck on my new American Deluxe Telecaster. Could not be happier with service, and prices. The only drawback is I live in Texas now... But a with just a telephone call, I can STILL get great prices and direct shipping! You can not go wrong with this place! I'm going to be 44 next month and my father bought me my first guitar(Les Paul copy)when I started playing guitar at age 15 at this very location. I never bought anything there again because I've lived in Miami all my life. It was a different name back then and, if the owner is not the same, you can't say it's been in business for 38 years--different owners. more

I'm writing in response to (reeve99) and his assessment of Modern Music. He could'nt be MORE WRONG!!! This store has the best Service Department EVER for guitars. I've personally brought in several of mine for adjustment's and pick up changes and have NEVER had any problems at all. I have been a customer of Modern Music since 1971. I happened to be there the day this guy in the other review picked up his 2 month old Les Paul that JT installed pickups in. You had to tilt the guitar just right to see any marks on the body near the knobs,probably made by the owner while adjusting his volume(normal) The pickguard was accidently scratched by JT,who in turn gave the guy a brand new Gibson pickguard to replace it. And let him keep the scratched one.The guy was being very unreasonable with JT so JT said something like "" don't bring your guitar here for repairs anymore "". I think Modern was more than fair in this transaction. Maybe the Les Paul was the guy's first expensive guitar and he's a little spooked by anyone else touching it. I have at least three guitars that cost more than that guy's car and I wouldn't let ANYONE other than JT do any repairs or adjustments on them. Modern Music always has the best prices in town,and it's been that way for at least three decades.Just go to Sam Ash or Guitar Center and see if you can get any attention from the kids working there. Dropped of a 2 month old NEW gibson les paul to have a zakk wilde kit installed. JT scratched the front of guitar and had a screwdriver scratch across pickguard. didn't resolve issue and was extremely unprofessional and rude. more
