About Claremore IHS 7/24/2008

Not a bad place..It does have alot of resources and the wait time is not bad just bring a book and enjoy a good read. Now, the previous review was full of racists remarks. As a Native American we are a group of inter-racial people now. To say a person is any less Native American because their hair is blond is irrelevant. I have seen people who are half-bloods and have blond hair. We as a community need to move past this racism and embrace all those of our tribes and larger Native American community. We are stronger united than divided. Also, free health care is always much better than no health care and quite frankly I have had waits in non-IHS clinics that were about just as long as at Claremore. more

Don't go unless your dying.. 5/9/2007

Alright...let me be frank here..The first thing you see when you reach the IHS Indian Health Services is the parking lot. Which isn't large enough for all the people claiming to be ""Native American"" just because they might have a CDIB card. If and when you find a parking spot, upon entering the main doors, the first thing you might see is a blonde fair skinned person sitting and watching the front doors. The main lobby is usually packed after 7:00 in the morning. It is due to under staffed problems which is what I would like to believe in my own opinion. Some of the staff's attitudes are fairly normal, where some of them might be in a bad mood. It seems like some don't really care what their really there to do, which is to help with the general public. First thing to do upon entering, is to stand in line which there usually is, and wait to check in with registration. After this process you usually end up waiting to be screened to be seen as a walk in patient. The shortest time it has ever taken me upon my arrival, was a little over an hour and 40 minutes. That seems to be a normal wait time..I don't know why it takes so long to get general information like weight and body temp and why your needing to visit the doctor, when that's all screening is, and then seeing a doctor is usually what really takes the longest. Depending on what that doctor is doing and how many people he actually see's, more or less depends on when if you are ever seen. I have spent many valuable hours of my life sitting around in the lobby or somewhere else waiting to see a doctor, and many times, I was never able to see a doctor just simply because although many people think we get seen free, there is no such thing that is ever free. Many hours are spent just waiting to be seen. Even in the ER they are really slow. Maybe it isn't such a good idea going if you are dying. What food there is..in the snack room, is highly over charged for simple snacks. I would rather dole out hard earned cash. Pros: Alot of resources... Cons: Just hafta wait a ridiculously long time for it more
