A Nature Preserve in the City 4/9/2006

Mission Trails is a great place to visit when you want to get out of the City but not drive too far. The interpretive center is small but modern and can also be reserved for events for non profit organizations. There is a small amphitheater outside where they will have talks and presentations. There are several trails to get your legs moving. Great for the whole family as well. Check it out. more

fun place for a jog 10/22/2005

I love going on a jog through mission trails park. Its a beautiful park. I have been through there when there a lot of people, and when no one has been in the park...I wouldn't recommend that as I felt like a CSI episode waiting to happen. I always stay on the main path unless I am with other people as I don't want to go through the woods alone. The dam is also a great place to go to relax after a long walk/run/bike ride. more

good hike in San Diego 8/22/2005

Cowles Mountain of the Regional Trails Park is the tallest point in the city of San Diego. Before the climb, it looks intimidating, but the hike is actually quite easy. The best part is, when you get to the top, you feel like you really accomplished something by being at the highest point in San Diego. Strongly recommend this hike to anyone who likes hiking. more

Mission Trails Park 8/20/2005

Mission Trails Park is a very nice park with all of the good things that a park needs. It is on prime location - right next to Mission Bay, so you get a good breeze if your running. They also have play equipment for the kids. Definatly a good place for the kids - you can even go swimming in the bay if you want! more

Highest point in the city of San Diego 8/15/2005

Mission Trails Regional park contains Cowles Mountain, the highest point in the city of San Diego. At the foot of the mountain, it seems like an impressive climb, but when you actually hike up, it's actually not too bad. It's roughly 1.5 miles to the top, for an elevation of 1592 feet at the top. The view improves as you're climbing up. At the top, you have a 360 degree view of the surround area. On a clear day, you can see out to the Pacific Ocean. For some good exercise, I definitely recommend this hike. more

Mission Trails Isn’t just trails 8/12/2005

There is much to do in the Mission Trails Regional Park. This park actually stretches from Lake Murray in La Mesa into Santee. Mission Trails has just as much fun stuff to do and explore as Balboa Park, and Mission Bay Park. There is fishing on the weekends at Lake Murray, where you can also rent a kayak, paddle boat or just take a walk around the 3 mile road surrounding the lake. Mission Trails Regional Park is one of the largest urban parks in the US. There are tours offered from the very nice up to date visitor and meeting center. To the east you will find the old padre dam with many hiking trails leading you into the hills. This land that was once used by the Kumeyaay is open for camping where you can set up tent for the night park an RV. more

A great place to hike! 8/3/2005

Mission Trails Regional Park is huge. I went to a trailhead that is located near Santee and near Kumeyaay Lake Campground. The hiking was really great there. They have paper maps that you can take with you while you hike. The maps also recommend other good hikes. The Kumeyaay Campground looked like it could be a good place to stay if I liked to camp. It had showers. The lake is kind of small but I saw a couple of guys fishing. Anyway, this is a great place to spend a morning! more
