Beautiful Hotel 8/13/2010

The moment we stepped off the ferry, our luggage was brought directly to the hotel, while we explored the island. Upon checking in, our luggage was brought to our magnificent room, which featured a generous sitting area, a 4-poster bed, fireplace, a large bathroom with jacuzzi tub, and a patio with lounge chairs. The grounds offered many dining options, a putting course, and a pool! Upon checking out, our luggage was picked up and sent to our ferry, where it was waiting for us at our destination. A beautiful hotel and great island location- not smack dab in the middle of the town. more

5 star hotel it's not 9/13/2006

Mission Point Resort is not what you'd expect for the price and beautiful photos in the brochures. It is a rustic lodge with character that has aged through the years. Built on a hillside it overlooks Lake MI and the beautiful golf course. Many weddings are performed on the grounds with receptions held in one of the many convention -sized rooms. It has two floors but actually 5-6 levels within those floors. Although it has an ancient elevator, it is not handicap accessible for the multi levels all have stairs. The lodge lobby, beautiful wood and stone decor, has an angular shape with a teepee like roof/ceiling about 3 stories high. The numerous big gas log fireplaces are always lit giving a cozy ambiance. At night we played box games in front of the fire. The swimming pool and hot tub are always open. Even on Sept. 12 we went swimming in the heated outdoor pool which was over 80 degrees. There are 2 restaurants, a gift shop, a small store- all were operating. We went to the breakfast buffet which was $12.95 for a wide variety of everything. However, the food was barely warm so I wouldn't recommend it. This resort was formerly a college and the rooms still resemble dorm rooms. Yes, they are tiny, with small bathrooms, no A/C. Being allergic to dust and mold, I had a difficult time breathing well. Our king bed had a chicken feather mattress topper which poked us so bad we had to remove it. On the grounds is another building that contains a game (arcade) room, hair stylist, spa, and a very large exercise gym with many machines. Outside there are all kinds of bikes for rent. I give this resort a lower rating because of the small, older rooms, the lack of upkeep in the lobby, lack of hot water and soap, poor food. Many people were heard at the lobby counter complaining about their rooms. In fact, we were here ourselves on a free stay because we complained last year about both rooms we had. Mission Point promised us a top quality room with free breakfast for 2 so we took them up on their offer. They still failed in my book. I feel sorry for those unsupecting people who pay a lot of money. more
