If you want to frequent an independent restaurant that has great healthy yummy food, and plenty of it, this is the place. Wonderful owner, I think she inherited it from her parent...

If you want to frequent an independent restaurant that has great healthy yummy food, and plenty of it, this is the place. Wonderful owner, I think she inherited it from her parents. You get a bunch of little bowls of different foods with your main dish. If you are a vegetarian, get the bi bim bap with no meat. And if you love meat, get it with. Pros: consistently yummy, good vegetarian and meat options Cons: more people don't venture to Korean restaurants more

I don't know authentic Korean food, but I have eaten at a lot of Korean restaurants in America, and this one has the best galbi. Pros: Example: best croissants in town Cons: What are the drawbacks? more

Not quite what we were hoping for. 2/23/2009

We were really excited to go get some Korean food and we wanted to try something new, we mostly go to Hoban in Eagan, but we were left unsatisfied and poor. The service was good, our water was kept full the whole time and we had plenty of rice and sides. The atmosphere was nice, there was some Korean hip hop on in the background which was pretty cool. The server was nice and our food cam out quite quickly, but we did go at 4 on a Saturday so there was only one other table in the restaurant. Our food was not what we were hoping for, We got the Bulgogi- it was a little dry and there was not much sauce on it, it didn't taste like much. We also got the Kalbi and there was very little meat on the bones. The ribs had more fat than meat on almost every piece, but the sauce was very good on these. We ended up spending 43$ with tip for these dishes and a soda and left wishing we would have just gone to Chipotle instead. Pros: Good atmosphere, good service Cons: prices are high, food was not worth the price more

Good Solid Korean Food 11/11/2008

I highly recommend Mirror of Korea. I wanted to write a more updated post of the food and atmosphere as over summer '08, Mirror of Korea has remodeled. The place actually offers a comforting, more modern ambience and the walls and restaurant itself are less bare-cafe like, and more updated and inviting. Not only that, but the parents have retired from cooking and the ""lone Korean-mom server"" now does the cooking and they have at least 2-3 people on as waitstaff. They are most likely Korean students attending Hamline. \r \r Additionally, they offer wine now in addition to a few beer options (including Korean options), which is a nice addition. They are less quality (Beringer, Sutter Home) wines in mini-bottles, but still, for the affordable cost of a Korean meal - they are at least attempting to give more to the clientele.\r \r A staple to try as an appetizer are the mandu (Korean dumplings) and the seafood pancakes. You will receive your banchee (side dishes) with any entree - staples to try if you are new to Korean food are the bulgogi (both the beef and pork are good); if you are with picky eaters-the na go gi is a good option as it is more familiar (deep fried chunks of chicken) in a typical korean hot sauce with mushrooms, onions, zucchini and peppers. \r \r They also offer items like skate fish if you are adventurous. They do not accept checks-cash or debit/credit cards only. Two people can easily eat here with an appetizer, two entrees and a few beers a piece for $50. I have been going to this place literally since I have been born and i am now 20. The service is friendly. It is not a fancy place but a comfortable place. Aside my moms Korean cooking it is the best place that one can go. Pros: Food, Service, Hospitality Cons: Booths more

Good Korean Food - But Nothing Fancy 11/15/2007

Good Korean food, but not as good as Hoban in Eagan. Their prices were OK, but the atmosphere leaves something to be desired. Their booths are kinda tall and not very comfortable. The service was OK, but I got the impression they didn't really want to be bothered ! We arrived around 1:20pm on a Friday and it seemed to be an imposition to the staff. Great Food, and Friendliest Place in Town 10/24/2007

We've been going for years, and the food is always very good--best Korean we've had in the Twin Cities. It's not fancy, but it's a great value and the owner is wonderfully friendly. It's also great for kids who aren't obsessed with Mac and Cheese only--try the veggie pancakes and let them sample all of the small side dishes. Comfortable, filling and tasty. Good Home-Style Cooking 5/3/2007

I love Korean food, and Shilla on Snelling used to be the best place for it before they sold to another restauranteur. But Mirror of Korea is a close second and it's just up the street from where Shilla used to be. I don't understand why people keep reviewing the food as ""not super authentic"" because I grew up eating most of the same foods in my Korean household. Their galbi (barbequed shortribs) is delicious and an easy introduction for those wary of trying new foods. My non-Korean husband loves their daeji bulgogi (spicy grilled pork) a great choice for those not afraid of a little spice. The soo tooboo chigae (a spicy and rich tofu and seafood stew) is hearty and filling; if you're familiar with Mexican cuisine, the taste is similar to caldo de siete mares (soup of the 7seas). They also serve a dish not normally found in most Korean restaurants; mool naeng myun, a noodle soup served in a cold light beef broth with thin slices of beef, hard-boiled egg and cucumbers. Delicious and refreshing esp. in the summer (when Koreans love to eat it), you can't get much more authentic than naeng myun.\r \r The prices are very reasonable, their lunch specials are amazing, with smaller portions of your favorite barbeque dishes and a side of rice for around $7!\r \r As for the service, the waitress/owner is a lot like the food, straight forward, very Korean mom-like. So don't get all miffed if she's not super-friendly to you right away. She warms up as the food is served and she also may try to steer you away from foods that she thinks you might not like, but persevere, and don't send it back if you don't like it, she warned you!\r \r To the reviewer who wrote about being understaffed, I've also waited a while for the food, but honestly, I don't think they could afford another waiter or cook as it's totally a family run business. I prefer to frequent smaller local restaurants and I think Mirror of Korea is worth the wait! good korean, not perfect authentic but very good 11/23/2006

I'm not expert at Korean dining, but I'm a fan of the cuisine and hae eaten in many korean places around the country.\r \r These guys are not purveyors of ""high"" korean cuisine but rather homier cooking, and they do it very well. Bul Go Gi and Bi Bim Bop are my favorites here, along with cold buckwheat noodle soup and Dukh Bok Uhm (rice cake stir fry). Oh, and Seafood pancakes are delish! . Many korean dishes are rather odd for american palates, and the waitress will caution you if she thinks you may be sorry. Its charming, if occasionally a bit odd to have her say ""you won't like that"". I like to prove her wrong, but you will do well to at least consider her advice if you are not familiar with Korean.\r \r Service can be rather slow, since there's only one very busy waitress. Prices are good although beer is rather overpriced.\r \r The owners/waitress love kids and are very sweet to children eating there, although many kids aren't adventurous enough eaters for korean they will probably like chicken bulgogi.\r \r Also, they close tuesdays, and we often forget that and are sad when we get there having forgotten. Great food! 3/16/2006

I was very scared to try Korean food until my husband finally talked me into this great place. Now I want to go there one a week! I love the fried dumplings, the Chap Chee (I'm butchering the spelling, sorry), and this spicy chicken dish. I don't know what its called, but it is amazing! The waitress there is very nice, and she loves kids. My son knows her now (he's almost 2), and loves it that she pays so much attention to him. Pros: good food, good prices more

I love Mom and Pop restraunts 12/28/2005

But sometimes folks need to hire help. The food was great, but the single cook in the back was as overwhelmed as the single waitress. . . and this was a Wednesday night. I was happy with the food, as was my dining buddy. There were no leftovers, no, not a drop, but we left full enough not to be searching out dessert. My dining buddy says I should be specific about the wait, food was 35 minutes following seating and we ordered within five of sitting down. Overall, it is a fair enough place, but they need to staff it if they want return customers. Pros: Good menu, Good food, decent prices Cons: 1 cook, big restraunt, prices decent more

a step above average 10/3/2002

I like each of the Korean restaurants in the Twin Cities for different reasons. As a Korean-American myself, I eat Korean food most of the time. So although the restaurants in the TC metro may not be totally authentic, I can appreciate them for their convenience and for giving me a break in the kitchen! I like Mirror for its variety. Bring some friends and try the haemul jeongol if you like seafood. The barbecue dishes can be good or not so good, but I've always had good luck with the dukbokki. Pros: inexpensive more
