Year-round, this is a gorgeous place for a visit. Drive the loop through the arboretum, and drive slowly, as there is much more there than immediately meets the eye. There are great gardens to visit when you get out of your car as well. I highly recommend the Japanese garden, as it is a very fine one. Just beyond the Japanese garden there is a vast hosta garden. In the spring, the azaleas are stunning. Even on rainy days, it is quite beautiful—it has a certain majesty and dignity that glows, regardless of the weather. more

Lovely Landscapes 8/18/2005

I was very impressed by the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum. One can easily spend a significant portion of a summer day wandering through the facility. I think that this is a nice outreach effort of the University of Minnesota. The area is huge and you will see tons of beautiful plants, including a good selection of native species. more

REally really amazing lanscapes 8/17/2005

Organized by the U of M, this place has 900 acres of streams, fields, plants, etc. These are indoors and outdoor gardens. It looks different every season (I've been there summer and winter). Especially cool are the orchids during winter. In the Snyder Building, there is a gift shop and research library. Here, there are classes and lectures held. You can also eat at their awesome tearoom, butI didn't go there. more
