I have to agree with Laura R. about this practice doing too many referrals. I chose them after having some fairly severe problems. Dr. Mills was friendly, highly competent and very thorough in her exam and initial treatment. However, when my case proved to be a bit complicated I was referred to two other specialists. I do not have insurance and because of my condition was not working. I simply could not afford the exorbitant fees charged by specialists, so I'm back to where I was before - no real diagnosis and no treatment of my illness.
In addition, because my condition has been so severe for the past year and I've lost my health insurance and job, I had applied for SSI and Disability. When I receieved the paperwork from the SS Administration it appeared that Dr. Mills did not help me in any way and although she couldn't come up with a diagnosis told SSA that I wasn't "disabled". That really disgusted me since she was the one who suggested I see all sorts of specialists knowing that I couldn't afford them without Social Security or some other assistance.
Their policy seems to be to refer out every illness more complicated than a head cold to some sort of expensive specialist. That just doesn't work for me.
There is a great possibility that I have a very serious form of vasculitis called Churg-Strauss Syndrome that can be life threatening. I am scheduled for biopsies at another hospital and doctor next week. I'd hate to think that Dr. Mills missed such a serious illness or that she purposely wrote off my illness because I was uninsured - especially in light of torpedoing my Social Security Claim.
