Editorial
  • During the warmer months, this sprawling athletic facility -- the pride of Southie -- is overrun with kids playing organized ball.

And with six Little League fields, three soccer fields, an open-air football stadium and two playgrounds, it's easy to see why the place is so popular.

While the park is a mecca for kids, adults can enjoy four full basketball courts, two tennis courts and a street hockey court. The park itself is just across the street from Carson Beach.

The crowds stay away during the winter months, so you can use all the facilities without a permit -- but they take down the tennis nets once the snow falls.

City of Boston parks and playgrounds are open all year. You'll need a permit for baseball and softball fields. For information on permits, call the City of Boston Parks Department at (617) 635-4505.
