BEST FOOD hands down! 1/25/2011

I have went to Mikados on many occassions. I have a craving like no other when it comes to Mikados, matter of fact I am going tonight :-) The atmosphere is great, the Chefs are funny....and the entire staff are all personable. I dont understand why people want to downgrade this place. It is great for all occassions and even for no occassions at all. I even go there (send my husband) to get a bottle of their salad dressing, cause I dont like the dressings in stores since I have been ""turned on"" to Mikado's salad dressing. more

Best Hibachi in my opinion 7/31/2010

They are great, I know the owners and some of the chefs we go so much. I love the rice and steak sauce. The mai tais are cheap and excellent. I would recommend it to anyone. however, i did have (1) isolated bad experience. I arrived 30 mins before close and they wouldnt seat me. Of course they manager seen it was my family and tried to seat us. but i was so p'd off that we left and didnt go back for almost a yr. When i seen the bartender at a gas station one night, she mentioned that they felt so bad about that night. I mean, im a customer and they remember ME almost a yr later! so i gave em another chance, and its been great since. hope you can experience it. Ask for Bruce to be your chef! Pros: entertaining, bar drinks are good and cheap, great food Cons: i did have one bad experience that kept me away for a while more

Great amosphere 3/6/2009

Like most hibachi grills, the atmosphere is quite aoothing... A lirele escape from buy life. They don't have any sushi, however, but their other selections are great more

reunitied with an old favorite flame 10/30/2008

I used to go to Mikado with my family when I was younger but for no specific reason I never got a chance to make it out there as I would have liked to. I do specifically remember their ginger sauce that went on the salads. Since then, I always compare their sauce with other japanese restaurants and it just does not match up to Mikado's. I was recently asked to go there with a friend and it was like being back at home. Not only was the sauce just as I remembered but the food was beyond satisfaction, accompanied by a very reasonable tab for the quality of food. As far as service goes, I have worked in the restaurant business for a number of years therefore there are certain things I expect when I go out to eat. The service you recieve at a restaurant can make or break the place and I could not have been more satisfied. The chefs were hilarious, servers were friendly and not overbearing, bartender kept a great conversation going, and even the host was very polite and took great care of us. I feel bad for not coming back sooner, but I will definitely make up for it in the future. No complaints here! more

Mediocre Japanese food at best. 7/2/2008

Having been to several Japanese-style steak houses, when I moved to Nashville I was eager to find a good one here. Unfortunately the first I happened upon was Mikado. The boast often about their 25 years of service. The building's condition definitely reflects 25 years of existence, with little in the way of upkeep/maintenance. The place looks like it's been closed down for the better part of the decade. Still, though, I've had a great number of wonderful experiences with ethnic food in less then opulent settings, so I persevered. Pros: Um...the hispanic chefs do an entertaining, albeit offensive impression of Japanese people. Cons: Poor pricing, poor food, poor ambience. more

Fun place to go 2/22/2008

I went on a Saturday night with my 2 cousin's & a friend of mine. We had to wait but even where we had to wait was nice. There is a bar there. Since we had 4 in our party we shared our table with other people. The cook was fun & I took a couple of pictures. I liked the soup & I loved my steak. I can't wait to go back with David! more

The number five with a side of shrimp and a mikado special to drink! 2/16/2008

This restaraunt is the absolute best japanese steak house in nashville. I have been to them all and by far the sauces and salad dressing and overall taste of the food is far supurb then any other. Granted the style of the restaurant is not as chic as Kobe's per say, but the food and the friendly service speaks volumes. However, beware...this restaurant will ruin you for any other. It will stand as a prerequisite for all other habatci grill restaraunts you will visit. My personal choices: The number five (the filet steak is much better than the new york strip) with a side of shrimp, and a mikado special to drink! That's the good stuff! Pros: steak and shrimp sauces, specialty drinks, salad dressing...filet steak! Cons: more casual... more

One of the BEST for Japanese 12/4/2007

I've been to a few other Japanese restaurants in the past. I have to say that Mikado's is definitely at the top of my list. I started going there this past summer and have always had a great experience. We have actually started to become regulars! We buy their sauces and dressings to have at home too as well as ordering extra to go. Not that I ever finish my whole meal in one sitting because you end up with so much food by the time it's over. Pros: Service, Food, Ambience, Convenient location Cons: No Sushi more

A horrible evening. 6/12/2007

We were served by a ""chef"" whose whole act was based on making customers laugh by pretending to speak broken English and basically reinforce every Asian stereotype that exists. Myself and my boyfriend had never been to a Japanese steakhouse before, so I found myself the target of every ""joke"" the chef had to offer. He came off less as a comedian and more like a schoolyard bully. It was completely humiliating because we were with my boyfriend's parents and it was his father's birthday...so had I walked out it would probably have ruined dinner. I was near tears by the time dinner was finally over. We paid over $20 a person and honestly, even had dinner not been excruciating, the food was not impressive to say the least. The steak was tough and bland and the rice was tasteless. I am very confused about why this has so many good reviews...the Asian buffet down the street has more taste. I will never go back and if all Japanese steakhouses are like this, I won't be visiting any of them either. Pros: This is great if you are entertained by bullying and stereotypes Cons: Food was not worth over $20 a person. more

Good for groups but very busy due to the location. A meduim rating for food and flair 5/23/2007

I can only give this one an OK. It was not bad but is was not anything special either. It is a lack luster dining experience. Pros: Free Parking, OK food Cons: OK food, lack of value more

Best Japanese Restaurant -- Hands Down! 2/11/2007

I should have written this review years ago and it has been prompted by a bad experience we had at Shogun last night. Not exactly the best food and service at Shogun and certainly not the type of experience we have had at Mikado for 10 years. On behalf of my entire family, we have NEVER had a bad meal at Mikado. Service, food and overall experience is 100% positive. We always leave with a ?doggie bag? because the amount of food received is so generous. Our family actually ?fights? over leftovers the next day. The wait for a table has never been more than 30 minutes. The bar is comfortable and the bartender and waitresses are very quick, friendly and make the wait enjoyable. The food is unmatched in my opinion. The salad dressing alone is worth the trip and we always order a extra salad dressings on the side to use for dipping shrimp and chicken (a great insider tip!). Their appetizer shrimp is a favorite and is always fresh and cooked to perfection ? never undercooked. The fried rice may be our favorite ? perfectly seasoned and perfectly timed to enjoy with the rest of your meal. At Mikado, they don?t use a lot of Teriyaki or sauces to cover the meat or seafood. Their chefs appreciate the freshness and quality of the meats they serve and only use their own seasonings for flavor. They do offer two sauces on the side ? one for meat, one for seafood and both wonderful. We stick with the basics ? shrimp, chicken and steak and always upgrade from sirloin to filet (worth the extra $2). The chefs are much more engaging than other places and the wait staff is very nice and accommodating. Service from the bar to the table is also prompt. They also do not ?rush? your meal. Mikado is the perfect place to take the entire family with reasonable prices (soup, salad, entree and dessert at a pre-fixed price). We live in Brentwood and while Shogun is closer ? The Mikado is worth the drive. I can honestly say that we will never stray away from The Mikado again. Pros: Rice, Sauces, Dressing, overall quality of food, engaging chefs and friendly servers Cons: None more

The Best Japanese Food in Nashville!!!! 9/20/2006

This is one of the best Japanese restaurants I've ever had the pleasure of visiting. The ambience is wonderful and cozy, the food is magnificent and the price is fair. I always stop here when I return to Nashville. When living in Nashville my residence was very close to Metroplex Drive, needless to say - this was a regular spot for me and my friends. Pros: Food, Price, Parking more

Amazing food AND service! 9/9/2006

I have been visiting Mikado's since 1994 and I take friends and family there for EVERY special occassion! Every birthday of mine, my daughter's and my other family members is spent here! Some look at the prices and think they are a bit high...but after one meal there they soon realize that they get their money's worth..and then some! The service is unbeatable and the bartender, Lee, is the absolute best! Everyone is friendly, funny, and entertaining! My 11 yr old has a blast bringing her friends here...and the kids' menu is half the price of adults...with the same amount of food! I will not eat at any other Japenese place after experiencing Mikado's! I can't imagine there being a better one out there! Pros: Ambience, group setting, meet new people Cons: NONE! more

Love it 10/21/2005

I've ate here about a dozen times over the last 23 years, and each time, I love it more ! It entertaining, with great food, and its an experience everyone should have. Make sure to sit in the lounge and have a drink, you'll feel like a millionaire. Coming from a food expert . . . the food just doesn't get any better ! Pros: entertainment, Great food, new experience Cons: expensive, worth it more

Yummi, Yummi 7/26/2004

The food here is very good and reasonably priced. Our chef was very entertaining and I noticed other chefs at other tables tried to put a good effort into being entertaining while they cooked. Pros: value, food, entertainment more

yummy-yummy 11/25/2002

We have a group of six that go at least every six weeks. I LOVE the food but the PLUM WINE is by far my favorite thing-get the carafe a glass is not enough:) The longest I have ever had to wait to be seated was 30 minutes. Service is great. Two people can eat for under $50.00 including the WINE. Excellent Place for large groups and children. more

One of our best dining experiences ever! 11/20/2002

My partner and I went to Mikado's for our anniversary last June. All the way from the soup to dessert, it was absolutely OUTSTANDING! We can't wait to go back again. Of course, most Japanese restaurants tend to run a bit on the pricey side, so we'll have to save up before returning, but believe me, it was WELL WORTH every penny! more
