One of the problems with being an East Coast girl in a Midwest town is my issues with allergies.
The Midwest Allergy Clinic was recommended to me by a friend and I stopped by to see what could be done to relieve my now full blown allergy symptoms.
They are conveniently located and there is always ample parking. The offices are pleasant and there is never a long wait.
The treatment for allergies is a two step process. After identifying the major causes of allergic reactions with a series of skin tests, the allergens are identified and a personal “serum” is developed by the labs to start treatment. Small doses are administered on a regular basis to help your immune system build up against the offenders. Note that the Midwest Allergy Center specializes in allergens that are specific to this area, very important when you consider that it is local products which usually trigger reactions, like mine. Trees, grasses and plants that are native to this particular area – The Midwest.
Midwest Allergy has a staff of specialized doctors who will assist you in finding the right course of medications. My doctor, a nice woman, is especially helpful. She worked through the medications and also suggested non-medicinal courses of action to help alleviate some of my symptoms as well. Medication is not always the answer, and I appreciate it when a doctor will suggest non-medicine solutions to allergy issues.
The center takes most major medical insurance plans, and the staff is professional as well as courteous. The nurse who gives the shots is one of the most pleasant and friendly person I’ve met, and she is fast and mostly painless with the administration of her shots. I’ve seen her working with the kids as well, and she has the kind of personality you wish every nurse had.
