Michael's Salons & Day Spa

I have been going here for many years and like my stylist. She listens to what I ask for, and does a good job on my blonde color. The front desk staff generally are young women with no personality. they check you in and that's about it. I do not have to wait long at all. They have a good selection of hair products (Aquage, ""It's a 10"", Michael's brand), a few types of flatirons and OPI polishes. I hate the lighting in the place, it's kind of a headache-inducing artifical hospital light. Other than that, I leave happy. A word of caution-a lot of girls with thick hair leave there flat ironed. I think it's a lazy way to style hair. How about a nice blowout? more

Yes this salon is officially the worst salon I have ever been to. I had an appointment today for a color correction, I was in the waiting room for about 10 minutes when the receptionist informed me that the stylist could no longer do my hair. I hurried to get there after work to find out Joy didn't have time, they sent me home and apologized for the mix up. I was shocked, isn't that what appointments are for? So unprofessional! more

I went in just to shape up my hair, trim off split ends and shape my bangs. I conveyed this to my hairstylist and she acted like she agreed to what I was saying. However, she cut my hair not at all how we agreed!\r Her intern came over to straighten my hair. She said she would straighten it just as I do at home and she did- and I hated it. My hair looked like a box and I had layers only two inches long.\r When my stylist came back over, she messed with my hair again, used defining cream and hairspray until my hair looked decent. When I asked about the products she used she said it was out of my price range\r \r Basically, you pay for a $60 haircut that doesn't look good until you buy their $60 product to put in. Not worth it more

I was extremely disappointed with my experience at Michael's Salon. I went in two days ago to get my bangs cut and ended losing 4 inhes of my hair! My hairstylist and I discussed that I wanted to keep my hair the same length yet without further talking with me she cut off all my hair. On top of that, the bangs she gave me are straight across, not side swept like I asked.\r I absolutely do not recommend this place unless you with for your stylist to disregard your wishes completly and go ahead and do what they want with your hair. more

I have been to Michael's several times, only for hair services including cuts & color. I pay extra to have the more experienced stylists. I failed to do this initially and I had a nasty cut with lots of split ends in a short amount of time. \r \r The stylists seem to have an edgey style and a lot of the cuts looks similar. I guess I'm more old fashioned and I like the blow-out look instead of just plain flat-ironed like I do for myself every day. One stylist did this and I was sooo thrilled. So if you prefer this, ask.\r \r They are really good about educating on how to style the new cut. And they are also good about letting you grow out your hair! This is the only place i've gone that actually will let you get just a 1/2 "" off or an inch without taking 3 off! One stylist told me to make sure you ask about this beforehand because some stylists will not allow you to have less cut off if your ends are bad. I don't mind going the recommended 6 weeks or so when they actually do what i ask!\r \r Make sure you sign up for their emails or facebook group as they frequently have 20% off deals and other promos. more

i have only been going here since oneys went out of business. They do a great job on my hair and makeup. The only drawback is the price. Pros: great atmosphere, experienced stylist, professional Cons: price more

I've been going to Michael's for over 8 years and have really had great results. I went from really long hair to short hair about 5 years ago and Bess did a great job! I love it! And I've changed from blonde to dark to blonde. I've had great experiences at Michael's! more

On my first visit, when I walked through the door, I knew I was somewhere special. Michael's is very much New York ! Very cool for Dayton Ohio. Since that first day, I have never been disappointed in my cut, color, style, or anything else. Last birthday, my husband gave me a spa package. What a day that was! The massage was so relaxing that I did not want to leave. Hope he gives me a package for Christmas as I cannot wait to be pampered again. They also have a great selection of products to use in between visits. I especially like the Swell Gel and this is the only place you can get it. I wouldn't think of going anywhere else for my salon and spa services. Keep up the great work, guys! I have been a client at Michael's for over 5 years now and I would never go to another place. The people there are very friendly every time I go in, and also very helpful if I ever have any questions. My stylist is always attentive to my wants and specific needs and always delivers the best service possible. I also cannot help but to notice the interaction with all the other designers and their client's while I am there. Everyone is just so friendly and I have never seen an unsatisfied customer while there.I deff agree with suziebell...I think the people with the bad reviews are themselves a bad experience, period. When you go in expecting higher standards than what is possible for you, you will have a bad experience because you didn't get what you wanted. It's difficult to please somebody who is impossible to please. Michael's is an upscale salon and would never hire somebody if they did not show competency. I do not believe these bad ratings to be valid or reliable...it is just a reflection of poor character and an unwillingness to accept a professional's opinion and attempt to please. I can't believe that anyone could have a bad experience at Michaels Salon. My husband purchased a spa package for me and was I so happy. A lot of my friends told my husband about their experiences at Michaels and he thought It would be the place for me. Was he ever right. From the time I entered the salon I was treated like a queen. The receptionist walked me back to undress, had a robe, wrap, slippers already ready and waiting. Upon getting undressed and in my spa clothes, I was off to have my massage, I did not want to leave the room, Kim was just excellent. Now off for my facial with Jill, well I thought I was in heaven the way she handled my face, I thought I was a Hollywood Star. Now off for my manicure and pedicure done by Kristina. Let me tell you, your hands and feet could not be in any better hands than hers. My final stop that put the icing on the cake was my hair cut and style from Amber. I had worn the same style for several years and explained to her I wanted a change and needed help. She recommended several solutiions that could be done, showed me pictures and we chose a cut and style so different from what I had. Well let me tell you she had the hands of an angel, I just loved my new look and my husband said he thought he was with a different women. All I can say is the people that had a bad experience, maybe they were the bad experence themselves. Michaels salon and Day Spa has my business for the rest of my life. Thanks to all the good people starting from the receptionsits all the way to the hairdressers. I can't stop talking about Michaels. Next thing I plan to do is change the color of my hair with Ambers help. My whole card c;ub is going to Michaels after hearing me talk so much about the salon. Girls at Michaels I can't wait to do it all over again. I would highly recommend Michael's Salon and Day Spa. I have been going there for several years now and have always had a very positive experience. The atmosphere is amazing, including the customer service, the decor, the professionalism of the stylists, the complimentary coffee, I could go on and on. I look forward to my time there to relax and update my look. Kristen has always been my stylist and does a fabulous job of taking what I tell her I want and producing a look that suits me and my lifestyle as well as keepiing me in style and looking great! Michael's Salon is the best salon in the area. I have never had a negative experience at Michael's. I am a long time customer and plan to be a life time customer. I was really shocked to read the bad reviews posted on City Search. I have to question the accuracy of these posts. Michael's has always provided me with excellent service and I have always left the salon with my hair looking it's best. I have my hair cut regularly and have my color done monthly. When you get great service it should be noted and Michael's has always delivered the best. I have referred all my friends and family to Michael's because they do a wonderful job. It was the most exciting day of my life . A dream come true and occasion that was a chance of a lifetime. That happen only once in a life time . And you know I wanted to look damn good! Where could I go to get the look that would witness the bigggest day of my life? I heard some good thing about Michael Salon and Day spa and I said Hey why not what do I have to lose?\r \r Suddenly ! came my results damage breaking hair fell to the ground as the stylest brushed hard, my poor hair I refused to cry I had my pride. "" What are you doing? Stop it I said you are killing my hair what did you do to it?"" From the bleach and the fact the three different stylest had to try to correct the color of my hair they continued to dye my hair four times untill I got a look I could walk outside with. My hair was burned and damaged beyound repair. And they refused to give me a refund! They Don't give refunds! They give you color again and again untill you have no hair.\r \r Michaels knew I had a important event and the customer service was a NIGHTMARE! Dayton can be behind the times but this place knows stylish haircuts. I've been going there 3 years and Randi has always done nice cuts and highlights for me. I usually take pictures of what I want. I was a first-time customer and was treated in the worst possible way (I can't imagine how they treat the regulars!). The stylist even with her self-proclaimed 20yrs experience did not understand what I wanted to do neither did she show the slightest willingness to ""get it"" (even with my showing pictures in style magazines etc.). Not only that she was extremely impatient and didn't want to communicate at all in the beginning, even though I had stated that I need to fix the previous cut (done in a different place). The haircut she finally did was totally unfit for me and my hair, and the stylist was negative all the time while working. The worst part was her nervous jerks on my head while simply combing my hair! She gave me a headache just being there. She only smiled once when she was walking me to the cashier's to pay. The girl there was extremely unhelpful and unwilling to respond to a basic q about a stylist product I wished to buy! When I paid, she never even said 'Thanks' or 'Bye'. What a waste of time and money. I recently went to Michaels for a highlighting/lowlighting. When my hair didn't turn out quite right, I called back to see if the hairstylist might fix it for me, like most salons do. The receptionist later called me and told me my hairstylist said ""he could not satisfy me"" and told me to go to someone else, without even knowing what the problem was (my hair was just too dark in some places). Can you believe that? Needless to say I cancelled and will never return there again. I also found the atmosphere to be very cold and the receptionists unfriendly. more

I have been a Michael's Salon & Day Spa customer since 1997 and I have had reason to use many other upscale salons in metropolian locations (Washington, D.C. and New York City). I have been unable to find better stylists than those at Michael's Salon and greatly look forward to the times I am in the Dayton area to have my hair cut and/or colored. From the moment they walk in the door, customers are surrounded by the salon's extremely classy atmosphere and pampered by friendly staff. Michael's offers all of the services one would find in other high-end salons at competitive prices. In fact, Michael's services are far from overpriced - customers get much more than they pay for. I showed my stylist (w/ 18 yrs of experience) my previous haircut which I loved and we even picked out another stylist's hair that was similar. Even with her ""experience"", she didn't cut my hair anywhere close to the examples we had selected. My hair looked like a large helmet and was very unflattering. I didn't like it and even she agreed that it looked bad. So she recut my hair. The second time around, she over-textured it and layered it so much that it was feathered out on the sides with a ""tail"" in the back. On top of it all, she used so much hairspray, mousse, and heavy cream on my hair to style it. It just made my hair look and feel worse! When we were finished she dumped me off at the checkout desk to pay and didn't even say ""Thanks"" or ""Bye"". What a ripoff.
