Creepy and conformist 6/30/2011

I went to Miami for my undergrad, and I agree with sparklingchaos..I have never experienced such a conformist, homogenous atmosphere as Miami U. The classes are quite good for a state school, but socially, it's a cookie cutter factory! I came from DC and went to Miami because my parents got jobs there, otherwise, I never would have gone. Oxford is a cow town in the middle of nowhere, and there is absolutely nothing to do on weekends. If you're from a city, it's a pretty rough transition. As for social environment, the students are mostly well-off boring kids from the Ohio suburbs, who have absolutely no perspective and are pretty parochial and unsophisticated(never traveled, never met a black person before, never had ethnic food, etc). Everyone looks the same and the girls all dye their hair blond..it's hard to tell the difference between Katie, Jen and Lauren. The good news? If you're a brunette, you'll get lots of attention here. If you're in any way ethnic, you'll get TONS of attention. I don't think I will ever feel so special as I did at Miami, lol. Overall, decent classes, but weak student body, both socially and intellectually (Miami is now accepting students at 80%, so they're not exactly attracting Ohio's brightest and finest). more

Stepford College 11/25/2009

I agree with sluggur1 that Miami is an idyllic campus if you're looking for an eerie place where everyone looks the same. They are known for ""keeping up appearances"" which can limit the number of minorities who attend. Miami is beautiful if what you're looking for is a sort of cookie cutter type place and you're comfortable with a very high school atmosphere. I found another nearby school to work much better for me on several levels. Pros: Good education Cons: Overpriced and monotonous more

College as it Should Be! 8/14/2002

Miami lies in Oxford, about 45 minutes north of Cincinnati. It's idyllic campus looks the way college should be. It's good for a stroll, and is particularly beautiful in the fall. The student body itself is a sight for sore eyes. Miami is known for ""keeping up appearances."" Oxford itself can be slow, but it has the feel of Bedford Falls from the movie, ""It's a Wonderful Life."" While in Oxford, take a 15 minute drive up the road to visit Hueston Woods State Park. more
