Mi Pueblo Taqueria

Mi Pueblo is a Cleveland jewel for Mexican food. Chile Rellenos are awesome. They offer up the type of variety that is rare in most Mexican restaurants. Caldo de Camaron is a spicy shrimp soup that is out of this world. Jose`, one of the owners, knows me on a first name basis. That's how much I love this place, and believe you will too. more

The food was really really good. The carnitas was juicy, and paired with the largest margarita ever, I more than enjoyed myself. Do yourself a favor and drop by if you're around, I don't think you'll be disappointed. more

I grew up in Texas and Southern California, which makes me a total Mexican food snob. I, since moving to Ohio, have insisted that there is NO good Mexican in Cleveland. Wrong, so very wrong. This place is amazing! The food is authentic, the menu all-encompassing. If you, like one reviewer, are ""grossed out"" by unique foods being on the same menu as a beef taco then perhaps this isn't the place for you. There is a Taco Bell not too far away, you should probably stick to that. \r The portions are huge (I always order a la carte), the prices low, and the servers are friendly. If you aren't familiar with the area, I can see being skeptical of the neighborhood, which is quite safe despite appearances.\r Do not miss this one! more

Well, if you're looking for TexMex, don't go here. If you're freaked out by ingredients that aren't typically served in America, you might have a problem here. Lengua means tongue. (They used to call it ""delicacy"" on the menu, which I loved.) If you want a consistant experience, with your favorite dish tasting exactly the same each visit, then move along; I'm sure El Jalapenos has a table for you. But if you want the closest approximation to a true Mexican hole-in-the-wall, then Mi Pueblo is a winner. You'll get nothing more realistic this side of Painesville. Now it's a little fancier looking than it looked back in the day, but the food is the same. The salsa is great. Depending on the day, the green or red might be the hotter one, but they are both great. There are a number of things on the menu that are spot-on, but my favorite is the Carne Asada Mi Pueblo. This is just skirt steak, certainly not the best cut, but man is it flavorful. The beans and sauce poured over the top are outstanding. I've tried to replicate them. I can't. You also get a dollop of guacamole that isn't the green glop you get in most places and usually grilled green onions. This is one of my favorite few dishes in Cleveland. It's that satisfying. There are lots of other things to try. The soups are all great, but not all are available all week--chicken, beef, seafood, goat. Lomo De Res En Chile De Arbol if you want something spicier. The Queso Fundido--so bad for you and so incredibly tasty. Forget about these other bad reviews here. I can't imagine someone tagging this as bland food. Mi Pueblo is a Cleveland treasure. more

\r I agree with the pervious reviewer, avoid this place at all costs! Bad, and could possibly be unsafe. \r \r I heard about this place though a friend who'd never tried it before but had read reviews that raved about how amazing and authentic the food at Mi Pueblo's was. And I, having always loved Mexican food, decided to head on out and give this place a shot. \r \r Let me tell you now, do not waste your time and money here. First, the prices where very high and the place appeared run-down and unsanitary. I had to brush food off the table and seats before I could sit down, the menus had dried pieces of food stuck in them, and the my shoes where actually sticking to the floor under my table. Gross! Oh, and also the toilet in the woman's restroom wouldn't flush. When I read the menu I was actually really grossed out by the fact that they had food items such as beef tongue, pig stomach and beef head listed under some of the meat choices for the tacos and burritos. Some of the soups included octopus soup and tripe soup. They also served whole fish. And had it all mixed in with the rest of the food choices instead of a 'speciality section'. I have a weak stomach when it comes to that sort of stuff, so I found myself losing my appetite before I even finished reading the menu. I was so tempted to just walk out right there and then, but I decided to suck it up and give the food a try. Maybe all of this was just apart of the places ethic charm. \r \r The service was terrible, and painstakingly slow. It took the waitress fifteen to twenty minutes to do every little thing such as getting a menu or a glass of pop. When she refilled my basket of chips, she didn't bring more salsa and even when I did ask she still never brought it. After a hour wait, she finally brought over my food order and I was surprised to find how small the tacos where. High prices, small food. Hm. So I dug in, and found that I thought the food had a bit of a blah and just ""different"" in taste. Then I found a single piece of potato in one of the tacos, and I still don't even know what in the other (and honestly don't want to even think about what it could have been, I actually got sick later that night just thinking about it). Which leads me to believe that whatever is left over on the grill from the pervious order(s), gets left and cooked right with your order. That means who knows that you could be eating without even knowing it! Just a thought, but if you have a food allergy, I personally wouldn't trust this place for that reason alone.\r \r I found myself actually very uncomfortable eating here, and even though the food didn't exactly taste bad, it was very unpleasant not knowing that your even really eating. Finally the bill came, and after waiting for another ten minutes to be able to pay, I finally had to walk the bill up and all but make them let me pay so I could just get out of that place. \r \r Wow, this has got to be probably the worst restaurant experience I have ever had. I love Mexican food and the reviews on Citysearch said this place was great, so I grabbed my family and we headed out from Medina in search of this amazing Mexican food.\r \r First off, the area is run down ethnic and a bit scary to bring a family into. But... the reviews said the food was outstanding.\r We sat down and after 10 minutes the waitress came over with menus. The menus were dirty and the prices were high.\r \r We placed our order and the waiting began. After nearly and hour our food arrived. We found various other foods mixed in with our food. Apparently someone had ordered French fries and I got some in my fajita and also in the tacos. We also found carrots in one of the tacos. The food tasted pretty good but you had to wonder what else did the chief mix into our food?\r Perhaps what is ever on the one man grill was mixed into the next order.\r The cost was pretty high for such a run down and no service restaurant. $9.99 for the smallest tacos I ever seen is a bit steep. But on top of the filthy restaurant (we had to brush food off the seats to sit down) The service is just snail SLOW (they had maybe 5 tables with customers)\r Apparently they cook the food in no set order because people that came in 1/2 hour after we did got served before us.\r The couple next to us ordered a Fajita and received the wrong food but still they took the dish.\r \r I really wanted this to be the restaurant that others raved about but it just wasn't. The food is unpleasant since you really don't know what your eating.\r Something about finding miscellaneous foods mixed in with your meal is gross and again, the service is SO slow its almost non-existent.\r \r Side note: I was just glad that no one got sick and our car was still where I parked it. I will never put my family in a situation like that again. My wife and I grew up in SoCal and can tell you we've eaten at many different Mexican Places in Cleveland, and if you like the crap at places like Chi Chi's, this isnt the place for you. It's authentic and the employee's hardly speak English, it's great. Everything is fresh and comes from the attached mexican grocery store. Many local places are Americanized to cater to midwesterners tastes, but Mi Pueblo is hands down the best. Pros: Good Food/Cheap Cons: service slow more

This is as close to real Mexican food as one can get while living in Cleveland. Sitting in the dining room looking out the window you would almost think you were in LA. I actually crave this place. The Chorizo Burrito is one of my favorite dishes and the fajitas are amazing. The first time i went here i was a little afraid to enter, however now i cant wait to go back. This is the closest you will get to Mexican food in Cleveland. I took my wife?s family whom are from Mexico. They loved it. They were shocked. They had never been to Cleveland. The skirt steaks are excellent. The mole is good. The chicken soup will cure any cold. The Pastor or barbecue is pork is better quality and more flavorful then what I have had in Mexico. The to Tostadas are the bomb. They are very flexible with special orders. For desert try the tres leches. It is a Mexican pie (cake)\r If you like Chi Chi?s don?t bother, they do not have fried ice cream. : ). You need to go to fakemex restaurants. The best overall authentic menu in town. When you add price and selection it is 2nd to none. Walk into a different country off of Lorain Ave. You will be shocked at how much the food costs comparied to similar wanna bes'. I can not finish the chorizo buritto without taking a nap. And a bowl of menudo with warm tortillas is like heaven. I can't say enough, a must try. Yes east siders, if you like mexican it's worth the drive! oh yea the market next door rocks!!! The East Side location has a cool little bar, and this one doesn't. Aside from that, this is the place to go for authentic Mexican food in Cleveland -- yes, it's worth the drive from Shaker or Pepper Pike, even if you get lost on the way. The burritos are always good, especially the straight bean, cheese and rice burritos. Attached to the restaurant is a great Mexican mini mart, where you can buy hunks of sugared yams and pumpkins for dessert. This is one of the few Cleveland restaurants where you can order fresh tripe soup if you need to ... and the spicy carrot/onion/pepper salsa is unbelievable. Ask for at least three bowls of it, on the side. more
