Raising the bar 3/15/2010

So I've been going to Meze Grill consistently for the past several months, and I figured it was about time I gave these guys some props. Simply put, for those who've never tried it, the food is amazing!! I usually go with the chicken pita and stuff it with a bunch of the veggies that they have, and usually finish it off with their delicious tahini sauce. Their lamb and steak are great too!! It's about time a place like this came around to NY. All the quick service mediterranean/middle eastern food here is so mediocre, and the carts are a freaking joke. No where else but in NY does this food get stereotyped by these street meat vendors that sell garbage to drunk or starving people. This place not only does it the real way; it does it right and it tastes amazing. If you haven't tried this place, definitely give it a shot. Oh yeah, if you're hungry for soup, definitely try out the crushed lentil soup. . .amazing!! Pros: Everything is homemade and fresh Cons: Not enough of these around the city. more

Mediterranean Chipotle - Great Find! 1/3/2010

So I never thought anything could ever touch my beloved Chipotle until I rolled in to Meze Grill the other day with some friends. \r \r Just like Chipotle, you can have a sandwich, salad or rice bowl, and you pick your meat/falafel and then choose whatever sauces and toppings you want on it. I had the grilled chicken with a mix of bulger wheat rice and salad and i finished it with the garlic aioli and whipped feta salad dressing. I didn't really know what to finish it with so I took one of the employee's suggestions and it was outstanding. It also came with whole wheat pita bread which they make in house in a brick oven behind the counter. Hot and just out of the oven. It was great! \r \r One thing I noticed while I was in there was that they had a sticker on their window listing them as a ""Google Favorite Place"". I never heard of that before, but after looking it up, apparently they have quite the following on line and were selected out of a group of millions of buinesses to be part of this new thing Google is doing. I don't really know what it is (maybe google will tell us more about it soon), but I guess it means they must be doing something right. \r \r Oh yeah, for those that live or work in the area, they have a loyalty card which gets you a free item after you purchase your 10th entree. Very cool, esp in this environment. I'm curious to see what other things they do in 2010. Give this place a try if you're in the neighborhood. I'm sure you'll find some thing great to eat! Pros: Amazing baba ganoush, fresh ingredients, all homemade Cons: Could use some more artwork or info on the food on the walls more

Great Food, Great Service, Great New Spot. 1/3/2010

So I tried Meze Grill for the first time today with some friends and I gotta say I'm a big fan. It's beautiful on the inside. \r \r Nothing is off limits there, you get to create whatever you want to eat in any form you like: in a pita, over rice, or over salad. From there you get to choose from having chicken, steak, lamb of falafel, and then you can finish off your item with as many toppings as you like. Deceptively straight forward actually. They have a bunch of different finishing sauces that they make in house, all very yummy! \r \r I got a combination of chicken and steak over bulgar wheat rice and i left the place full, with even a little bit to take home as well. \r \r I also tried their crushed lentil soup with a side of pita chips. . .OH MY GOD. . .it was out of this world!! Especially on a cold day in NY. . .it really hits the spot!! I would definitely come back again. . .it's a big step up from other spots in the city that either serve mediocre food or are exclusively kosher and don't serve any meat. \r Pros: Ability to make whatever you want with whatever they have. more

Phenomenal Find--Meze Grill is truly GOOD food 12/16/2009

Fortunately for Greek/Mediterranean/Turkish food lovers, a friend of mine created a concept that has recently come to fruition --a high-quality food but casual made-to-order Mediterranean/Turkish grill. Im not just saying this as a friend --as i am more critical than anyone--but this place is as good as it gets. No, it's not a fancy Greek/Mediterranean restaurant....but it is the same to Greek as Chipotle is to Mexican. They highest quality and freshest ingredients are used and the flavors are literally out of this world--addictive. Hummus, Baba Ganoush, falafel, the best chicken ive ever eaten....and basically a create your own pita or bowl...just the way you like it. Just do yourself a favor...and if you are walking up 8th avenue, stop in to Meze Grill in between 55th and 56th streets. Just give it a try---i can guarantee you'll be back!! Pros: top quality food-delicious-quick and casual--AMAZING CONCEPT Cons: im addicted more

Im addicted to MEZE GRILL 12/3/2009

I stopped in to Meze Grill last week with some friends and I have been twice since!! Meze is delicious!! They have either sandwiches or bowls with your choice of chicken (most flavorfuland lean ive ever had), beef, lamb or falafel with all kinds of toppings and three kinds of hummus! My favorite part of the meal is something called bulgar wheat--it is something like a rice but healthy--i could honestly eat an entire bowl of this stuff by itself! Considering I have been there 3 times in the past 2 weeks says a lot, not to mention that i am sad when i get to the bottom of my bowl. Pros: absolutely delicious--i cant get enough more

HOT NEW SPOT--The Greek/Turkish version of Chipotle--AMAZING 11/18/2009

Meze Grill is honestly going to start springing up all over the city and then the country--this place is going to be the famous Greek version of Chipotle. You can either get a bowl or a sandwich (ive been there 3 times already and always get the bowl) with rice/brown rice, your choice of meat (chicken, falafel, etc), and then all these insanely amazing toppings such as hummus, spicy hummus, feta cheese, calamatta olives, jalapenos, tzatziki, baba ganoush, tabouleh, bean salads.....OMG im nuts about this place!!! In fact, just writing about it is making me really want it.....so ill probably be going there on my way home tonight! All my friends in NYC, you have to try it out--8th Ave between 55 and 56!! Pros: Food is AMAZING--like Chipotle style restaurant but GREEK!!! more
