Gone Down Hill 5/18/2009

I have frequently Mexicali many times over the years, and I hate to say it has really gone down hill. Everything from the margaritas to the enchiladas have gone from amazing to over priced mediocrity. I will say the staff has alway been very friendly but I feel that is the only positive I can say since what may be my final visit if things don't change :( more

I have frequently Mexicali many times over the years, and I hate to say it has really gone down hill. Everything from the margaritas to the enchiladas have gone from amazing to over priced mediocrity. I will say the staff has alway been very friendly but I feel that is the only positive I can say since what may be my final visit if things don't change :( more

had a wonderful time, this place is always packed it was great wonder people around me, and good food,\r personally my food had a little too much salt but it was really a great place....\r \r they have a beautiful outside veranda,, which is heated and i don't know who pis*** off the other reviiewers below but they shouldn't lie on the cantina... its a great place... \r \r my service was good the waiter was a talkker, the people at the next table talk and talk and we talked and they have been regulars for a while....\r \r the inside was packed like a sardine, but everybody seemed to have as much fun as me.... the food was a average in price i'm going their again i'll let you know i felt it was average... since i've only been there once, twice is the charm i'm going friday. inviting new people. Pros: had a beautiful time while i dined.... Cons: i waited a minute for the food more

Awful service and food 2/4/2009

For anyone thinking of going here, don't. I sat down at a filthy table that neither the hostess nor server cleaned, and I mean fitly. Smeared guacamole and salsa... I had to ask the waiter to clean it. Now, the waiter was nice, but the service was terrible. It took me almost 1 hour to get my dinner, for a chicken sandwich and crab. Yeah-not that great either. In addition, we were crammed in the patio with a bunch of drunks, so not very romantic. Also cold, it was really,really cold and no heaters on. They're trying to save money?\r This place is not worth it Go to Casa Vega.\r And I'm usually never critical. more

Cute servers, small portions, LOUD AND DARK! 1/30/2009

I love Mexican food and I live within walking distance of Mexicali. Unfortunately, it seldom cures my Mexican craving as the PORTIONS ARE SO SMALL!! I once asked for an extra amount of guacamole for my burrito. The ""extra side"" was about the size of a Kennedy Half Dollar coin and they CHARGED me $2.25 for it!!!!!\r \r Second, you cannot possibly expect to hear over the blaring of cheesy 80's music, which the annoyingly cocky ""bartender"" turned up even louder when ""Livin' On a Prayer"" came on. I had to repeat my order four times to my poor server because he couldn't hear, either. Also, it's darker than a torture chamber in there. I understand ""atmosphere,"" but I'd also like to be able to see my cocktail instead of feeling around the table for it. Perhaps this is an attempt to hide the skeletal portions from the clientele.\r \r On the plus side, the cocktails are strong (I suggest the margatini), and the servers are all cute boys (and a few well-intentioned girls). Our server (Chad? I couldn't hear when I asked his name) was FUNNY and we didn't ever have to hunt him down when we needed something.\r \r So go for the boys and the drinks, but eat somewhere more generous, better-lit and quiet before heading into their jungle.\r \r \r Pros: Service; drinks; night life Cons: Food portions; loud; poorly lit more

Has great possibilities but fails all around 11/29/2008

It was my first time, I was there last night. I have driven by often and it always looks like a nice crowd and they always seem busy, so figured it must be a nice place. I agree with some of the other reviews, yes the hostess had the mostess as we were seated fast, but it was a long wait for the drinks and then to order dinner. Once we got our drinks however we were refilled quickly. I ordered the Kobe beef taco and enchilada. The taco was cold, and it was not a good taco shell. The enchilada was delicious but the smallest enchilada I have ever been served! I must say it was pretty, however. The rice was unusual but delicious as well, but barely a spoonful. Black beans, nothing special. Would I go again? Yes as the Kobe enchilada was good, but I will go only when I am NOT hungry as the portions were tiny! Atmosphere was cantina like a bit too loud for my taste, but passable. So now you know what you are in for, good luck! Pros: Kobe Beef Cons: Very slow service, and not terribly friendly (except for the hostess!) more

This place is definitely recommended. Just went last night with a few friends and we had a great time. We were there for about 3 hrs and never felt rushed. The food is great, the drinks are great and most of all the staff is very friendly and attentive. The decor and music make it a very cozy and chill spot. It?s not to loud and not to quiet. This is a high quality Mexican restaurant at a reasonable price Pros: great food and drinks more
