Mexicalli Border Cafe was a favorite lunch spot for department lunches at my previous employer. The reason: Good food, a good selection, and reasonable prices. While the food is not totally authentic Mexican cuisine, it is tasty and arrives at your table piping hot. I haven't had one bad dish there. The service can be iffy -- while friendly, it can be slow. I don't recommend Mexicalli if you're in a hurry. The restaurant is conveniently located in Brady Village, and is great for dinner before events at the Performing Arts Center. Just make sure to leave PLENTY of time to compensate for the spotty service. Another plus is ample FREE parking.
Pros: Locally owned, plenty of free parking, good value for the dollar, convenient to downtown
Cons: Spotty service, can get noisy
