Give it a try! 4/24/2009

This place has the most amazing German food. It can be quite a wait on an evening or especially during the weekend but it is worth it. They have a full menu with German favorites but the best part is each day they have specials that are not on the regular menu. The specials change day to day, including desserts. Try going early because the specials often sell out. The staff is friendly, the atmosphere is interesting and the food is just outstanding! more

Authentic German Dining and Athmosphere 10/19/2008

Whenever we visit in Ann Arbor, we dine at Metzger's German Restaurant. Their Schnitzels, Sauerbraten and Apfelstrudel go well with their wide selection of German wines and beers. A nice place for some nostalgia, accompanied by German music. The decor is also interesting. more

Metzger's has some really good authentic German food. The saurbraten and spatzen are wonderful. Good sausages and weinershnitzel too. Also has outdoor dining which is nice when the weather is good. Good prices for really good food. more

We really enjoy their German food. 4/26/2007

Ann Arbor is of German heritage, and Metzgers carries on the flavor. Once located in downtown, sometime ago moved to the west side off I-94 at Zeeb rd. Ann Arbor used to have more German restaurants, and many are gone, but at Metzgers the traditon carries on. The sauerbraten is typically what we come for, but we have had many other meals. I also reccomend the pork shank. The German potato salad is great and there are always daily specials. I have seen large families dine and also couples. It's very friendly and fun. We have always had good service, and prompt seating. It is not easy to find German food like this, so if you like it, or haven't expierienced any, Metzgers is a great place to go. Pros: mmmm.....sauerbraten Cons: too far from where I live more

Good food, Good quality, Very Authentic! 5/28/2006

We found this restaurant by accident while going somewhere else. The minute we walked in the door we had a feeling we had made a good choice. The restaurant was about 75% full at 6:00 on a Sunday night. As the saying goes, if there's a crowd, it must be good. We were not disappointed. The food selection was quite large. While we were deciding, we enjoyed a stoneware stein of Hacker Pschorr draught beer that was very smooth. We opted for Hasenpfeffer and Cabbage Rolls with German potato pancakes, red cabbage and spaetzle. All of the food was excellent. The service could not have been better. The staff was friendly and cheerful. Our waitress Cara made several suggestions when we weren't sure what we wanted. She also explained that they had recently added several dishes to the menu and pointed them out. Pros: Excellent Service, Great Food, Freeway Close Cons: Can be noisy more

A Dining Tradition Since 1928

Owner Message
  • In 2001 Metzger's re-opened at its current location on Zeeb Road. The restaurant seats 189 people inside and also offers outdoor seating in our Biergarten. We still serve the same great food in a European atmosphere and the family tradition is still alive and well. The current owner John Metzger works multiple nights a week and his parents Walter and Ruth still enjoy dining at the restaurant throughout the week..
