Editorial review from Citysearch 11/29/2012

This is a great restaurant, they have everything and the food is wonderful and all homemade. I eat here two or three times a week. I can't imagine how anyone could say\r that it's expensive unless they're used to $1 hot dogs at the QT. It has to be their competitors posting these remarks. It happens.\r Try it, you'll like it. more

Drove 15 mi to this diner at recomendation of my son 8/27/2011

At the recommendation of my son my wife and I decided to try it, nor realizing it was 15 miles away. The food wasn't bad, except the $5.95 piece of pie was not not worth the price. Service was very friendly. Basic complaint is the incompetence of the way the check was handled. I am convinced the check was about $36.60, since I figured a 10% Senior Disc. would bring it down to between $32-$33. The check itself did not come back with the Visa, and was for the $36.60. I decided not to question it and added $3.50 tip. I didn't feel that a 15% tip was justified. The total Visa chg was $40.10. I checked my Visa statement on line the next day, and there were two charges listed...$36.60 & $39.15. I called the mgr. and couldn't get through to him that I felt the disc. was not applied to the $36.60, but must have been added rather than subtracted from the check. At any rate, none of theabove figures add up to the $40.10 total chg. on my visa receipt. Assuming the $39.15 chg. is going to credited, I'll come out ahead since the $32-$33 plus $3.50 tip would bring it up to about the $36.60. I'll assume this was all due to incompetency, and not dishonesty. more

Stay away at all costs 2/27/2011

OK, this may take a while. Decided on a Sunday night I wanted breakfast. Have driven past this place for 4 years, always cars outside, so decided this was the night to try it. After all, who can mess up breakfast? The Metro Cafe Diner can! \r Ordered the Western Omelet, a couple of pieces of French Toast and grits. \r Omelet: tasted like overly cooked egg beaters. Plus they had been cooked like a pancake, flipped over, cooked on other side, then folded in half. HUH? I think some type of machine was involved. too perfect.\r French Toast: obviously some type of frozen food service mess. Real french toast has some evidence of egg dipping on all sides. Not this, the inch thick pieces of bread had no evidence of egg on the crusts and were not even cooked inside, instead were gooey and raw when I cut in.\r Grits: well basics...put salt in water before adding grits and stir when you add them to avoid lumps. They did neither. \r OK,,,called manager over, expressed my specific concerns and he countered that all of their food is cooked from scratch (hate when people bold-faced lie to my face) he offered to bring me something else. \r Ok,,I asked for the Eggs Benedict, easy, fool-proofed so I thought. I was wrong. Looked good coming out (being generous because I won't even comment on the 'hollandaise' sauce on top.) Scraped if off and went for the egg, Canadian bacon and english muffin. Vinegar,,,why is my mouth tasting like vinegar? Overwhelmingly like vinegar All I could taste i vinegar. Arghhh....manager!\r His response was something about working on a cruise ship and that's the way they have always cooked them and no one has ever complained. After telling him I could not eat them, he again offered another dish. I politely declined. The only saving grace was the $3.00 glass of house Cabernet that kept me occupied while I waited for decent food that never came. Wishing I'd opted for IHOP or even Waffle House. more

I love this place. 8/28/2009

There are so many items on the menu from Greek to Italian, surf to turf, breakfast lunch and dinner, all of it made from scratch and they are damn good. One of my favorites is the Tour of Milan, three samples of great Italian dishes (Lasagna, An Alfredo, and Chicken Parm). Their Lemon Greek Soup is really good as well. Quite frankly, I haven't had a bad dish from this place yet and I have been a regular since it opened. The prices are a bit higher than I like, but when you have that many items on the menu ready to serve at a moments notice you have to cover your costs. As far as the service, I have always had, at least, good service, most the time they are really on the ball. As for trying the Waffle House down the road, only if you have no palate. Pros: 100's of items made from scratch Cons: Prices are a little high more

Overpriced food, bad location/atmosphere. 4/13/2008

As a customer and previous employee of the metro city diner, I would try to persuade you to NOT go to this restaurant. The food is quite overpriced and the management is unorganized and doesn't know how to treat it's customers or employees. This restaurant has been struggling for years without any success. There is a Waffle House directly next to the metro city diner. I strongly suggest trying there first. Two thumbs down. Cons: Food, Parking, Management. more
