Nice Place to Camp a Picnic!!! 4/4/2006

Hopefully the beach end will reopen this summer as this is one of the largest beaches in the middle suburbs of Michigan. There are a couple miles of picnic area there also and they have their own swimming pools. We've been coming here for ages, ever since I was a kid. Even though there are tons of parking space...it does get pretty full in the summer, especially on real hot days. You can get a summer pass to defray the costs of parking there. There bathrooms are always clean and orderly. They have soda stands for munchies and pop. You can't Miss Metropolitan Beach right off Metro Highway (16 Mile Road) and Jefferson. There are signs everywhere pointing the way. more

Fun but beach is often closed 8/19/2005

The beach has been closed at this park for quite awhile this summer due to bacteria in Lake St. Clair. This park does offer a lot more to do than just the beach though. There is big boardwalk for walking or rollerblading on which offers fantastic views of the lake and channel. There is also a nice playground for the kids and an Olympic sized swimming pool. You can also launch your boat here. There is also miniature golf for an extra charge. You can purchase a vehicle pass which is good at all the Metro Parks for the entire year. more
