Merritt's Bakery

I NEVER post a review for ANYTHING, but I would be remiss not to post today. I went to Merritt's on 15th St at 8am this morning, 1/21/12. I got sausage rolls that were inedible because the skin was so tough; we had to take the meat out of the rolls then pull the skin off to eat them! The bakery items I got were stale as if they were old! This food was not fresh! We tried to microwave the bakery items, but that was no more successful than scraping meat out of the sausage skins! The store itself did not even smell like fresh items were being baked! Even the servers were stilted and uncomfortable as if they did not know how they were to behave; not unkind, but UNCOMFORTABLE in their environment! This was the oddest experience I have had in Tulsa and I will not return to Merritts at ANY location. If we hadn't bought this food on the way in to work and were desperate to eat this morning, I would have returned it and demanded my money back! It was not just an "okay" experience. This was appalling, and I feel like we were TRICKED into thinking this was an upscale bakery. I now think everything in their display case must have been from previous days' business! This store is a misrepresentation! As I said, I HAVE NEVER complained in this way about a business. But this is unacceptable and unethical business behavior, and an embarrassment to Mid-Tulsa! Merritt's should be ashamed! more

Their products are always fresh and delicious and I always get service with a smile. Drop by and enjoy something wonderful from Merritts! more

I am boycotting until they change. If this was the Civil Right Era in America they would be one of the companies that had a sign by the door "No Blacks". more

Good: I bought a grooms cake for my wedding at Merritt's (71st and Garnett), it looked and tasted great, and wasn't frozen.. Bad: I agree that Merritt's doesn't have very friendly workers.. more

Merritt's on 15th Street has the worst service I have seen. They would not work with me whatsoever on the delivery time for my wedding cake. I was asking for a delivery time of 6:30 p.m., and they absolutely positively would not deliver any later than 6:00 p.m. Come on. Because of this, Ann's Bakery will be making my wedding cake. Ann's cakes taste much better than Merritt's in my opinion, and the staff is so much nicer and more accomodating. more

Delicious muffins! They are big, fresh, and delicious. Merritt's Bakery opens early for the stampede in route to work. Plenty of employees prevent long waits in line. I guess the coffee is good, I always see early birds sitting with the morning paper. more

all of their cakes are made with pillsbury cake mix. the wedding cakes are frozen for about a week to a week and a half then they decorate them. you would not believe how many times they had brides come in crying saying their cake was frozen when they went to cut the cake at their wedding reception. the Merritts themselevs arent jolly at all. Mrs Merritt will yell at all the employees all the time. demanding that some wear more makeup and what not. mr merritt is just as rude. he walks around with a stick up his butt constantly. they arent nice people and i refuse to purchase anything from them. if you are looking for a cake you are better off just going to the grocery store and getting a box of pillsbury cake mix. and there you have it a merritts cake. haha. it is true. promise. i know many people that have worked there. they even have photos of the bakery in the back showing all the cake mixes. and frozen cakes and pasteries. more

Merritt's is a great place to get any pasteries, cakes, etc. Some people think its a little expensive but with quality comes price, so you cant think that you're paying more than what you'll get. Everything there is amazing and I get all of my cakes there. Get your cakes here too! more

Merritt's Bakery has some great pastries by Tuls standards but they can be a little pricey if that's a concern. more

Merritt's is a Tulsa standard. The cakes, muffins, cookies, other assorted goodies just can't be beat. They had two stores, one on 15th & Harvard and one at 71st & Mingo. The 71st & Mingo location also has Italian gelato. If you haven't ever had Italina gelato you owe it to yourself to try it out. All of their cakes are wonderful but my personal favorite is their strawberry cakes. They layer white cake, homemade whipped cream, and fresh strawberries. Can't be beat!. Well, unless you compare it to their cheesecake. Their customer service is wonderful and they have a great selection for walk in customers as well as an incredible selection for custom orders. Just walking in the place makes you feel cozy. more

Merritt's Bakery is known around Tulsa as a high quality bakery, with delicious cakes and other pastries. Other bakeries do exist in town, but for most situations, including birthday and wedding cakes, Merritt's does a great job. more

If you have a special occassion coming up, or just an overactive sweet tooth, stop buy and see what merritt's has inside. They make absolutely beautiful wedding cakes, and will custom the cake to just what you want. The added bonus is that you'll never sacrifice taste here. For wedding cakes, Merrit's pretty much as a monopoly in Tulsa. They're not the cheapest, but they're the best quality. Other (cheaper) alternatives are Albertsons and Ann's... but as beautiful as their cakes are, they aren't as tasty as Merrits. more
