My spine specialist refered me to Dr. Nelson at St. Mary's Pain Management Center at Northshore. I didn't know what to expect, but I was pleasantly suprised by the treatment I received there. I waited less than 10 minutes before being called to the back. The staff was pleasant and I could tell that they knew what they were doing. I was asked to undress (except underwear and socks) and put on a hospital gown. I reclined on a gurney and was given a blanket at my request. The doctor who was going to put me to sleep ask me a few questions. I told her that I usally got sick at my stomach, so she used a medicine to prevent it. You don't have to be put to sleep if you dont want to be, but it assures that you won't move while the doctor is performing the procedure, the choice is yours. There were no IV's or shots. The doctor put me to sleep using a gas. She said, ""You'll be going to sleep now"" and out I went. I awoke without any difficulty and I felt fine except I was a bit groggy. I was offered a soda and helped myself to two. I was released right on time and even took a walk over to the pharmacy next door while I waited for my ride.
