Avoid this place at all costs. I feel a little bad giving it such a low rating, but then again, if Mercato's doesn't want to be ripped apart, it should cook edible food.
I'm not sure who is in the kitchen at Mercato's. But, my guess is that the kitchen is actually a cooking school for 4-year olds. Garlic is to be used for flavoring, but is not actual food. I ordered a dish here that had nearly as many garlic clove pieces as pieces of pasta. On top of that, the garlic was completely raw. I ate around the garlic, and only ate the pasta, but still ended up with a migraine from all the raw garlic. I should note that I normally do not have a problem with garlic. I've only had a problem here, and it's happened twice. Both times, I ended up in complete agony for the rest of the day. 2 out of the 3 migraines I've had in my life were because of Mercato's.
I have quite unfortunately been here a number of times. I went with someone who strangely enough liked it, and I kept agreeing to go along. I've been here with a group of as many as 6 people, and he was the only one that liked it. In fact, that trip was when we all agreed we were not going back to Mercato's. When 5 out of 6 people don't just dislike a place, but think it is possibly the worst restaurant they have ever been to, it is obviously a place that should be avoided. Even their salad was awful.
I'm just sad that citysearch doesn't allow zero stars.
Pros: absolutly none
Cons: disgusting food that actually made me ill
