Best meal I have ever eaten in Boston! 8/2/2010

I am fortunate to have a generous boyfriend who took me to Menton for my birthday. I love Barbara Lynch's restaurants after eating many lovely meals. Menton takes things beyond her other ventures in every way. The service is amazing with the right balance of friendliness, quiet and efficiency. We arrived on time for our Friday night reservation but our table was not ready. Fortunately, we were led to the lounge where we enjoyed drinks and canapes . The drinks were great and the 2 we had were very distinct. The first was like a summer lemonade with a kick and the second was the Garabaldi with aperol. The canapes (pear-ginger, pea or potato-caviar) were wonderful and all were served on top of thin slices of crisped potato. Our wait for the table was a little long but they made up for that with free cocktails and champagne served to us prior to receiving the menus (class and generosity). There were excellent breads and amuse-bouche throughout the meal. We had the prix fixe menu with wine pairings. Our sommelier was great and carefully described everything we were served. It ended up being plenty of alcohol by the end (so be prepared). Each course was delivered with multiple servers and the presentation was stunning. The flavors were so diverse and wonderful. The foie gras with rhubarb and almond brought me back to a Parisian restaurant I visited years ago. The English pea veloute was so fresh and the duet of rabbit was lush, tender (and I did not even think about cute fuzzy bunnies while enjoying it). My boyfriend had the summer salad, pea veloute and lamb which all were amazing. For dessert it was a lemon tart and a chocolate cremeux. The cremeux was stunning! Menton is now the best in Boston and really raises the bar for other restaurants. I can not say enough about the meal. I talked about it for days and kept trying to imagine the flavors, textures and odors that were part of this experience. Decadent, certainly. It is a meal that I will never forget and that is worth the indulgence. Pros: Excellent, friendly service & amazing food Cons: Expensive more
