My husband and I frequent this restaurant especially for special occasions. The food is delicious and the experience is incredible. We usually order "" the big night out"" which i...

Worst

I went to the Melting Pot for my b-day and I wasn't terribly impressed for what we got. We spent $80 without a dessert for 2 people! You have to cook the entree yourself, which I ...

Delightful! 5/7/2005

I very much enjoyed The Melting Pot, I felt as though I was in upscale New York. Very classy, fun, and enjoyable. People complain about the price, I guess they are just cheap, because that is what you pay for upscale dining. Pros: fun, classy, upscale more

Great for conversation 5/24/2004

Some say it's pricey, but that's because it's different. For the price you get a contemporary, urban-like atmosphere, friendly & energetic service, AMAZING tasting food and walk out with a full stomach if you get all 3 courses. I like the various choices of what you want to cook it in, what type of meat, what type of liquer to melt the chocolate, and a variety of dipping foods. There's something for everyone. Atmosphere makes for great conversation among your party or date because tables are cozy, romantic if you want them to be. Pros: great location, upscale atmosphere, professional service Cons: , Takes time to eat more

fantastic swiss fondue 5/7/2004

Their Traditional Swiss fondue is to die for. So are their dessert. Very extensive wine list. Their salads aren't very good and their entrees are fun but not outstanding. I recommend eating a light dinner early in the evening and coming to the Melting Pot later for cheese and dessert. Usually good service, but generally very very slow. Plan to take at least 2 hours. Make reservations in advance. Pros: cheese, chocolate, atmosphere Cons: , pricey more

French? 1/24/2004

What's French about this place?. Very expensive for what you get, the decor is nice, service ok, food so-so. Nice wine list. Pros: valet parking, decor Cons: food, expensive more

My Favorite SL Restaurant 6/24/2003

I have been to the Melting Pot four times now. I went for the first time on New Years and thought it was delicious. It is a nice leisurely experience and you definitely leave the restaurant very full. All of the service I received was excellent and I will definitely be back for special occasions. I had a nice romantic dinner with my husband, it is well laid out for privacy. Pros: Food!, Ambience, Great for Groups Cons: Bit pricey more

How much? 6/1/2003

3 of us dined for $135, which seems a little high since we cooked the food. We did share a bottle of wine, but still too pricey. I recommend many other places where you don't have to cook the food. Save your $135 for those restaurants. Cons: Expensive more

Very Tasty 5/27/2003

The food was great, a little pricy since you have to cook it yourself, but that's part of the experience. Parking downtown is not very fun, but they do offer valet. Pros: Great food, Atmosphere, Friendly employees Cons: Somewhat expensive, Downtown parking more

Not What I Expected 5/17/2003

Perhaps I am uncultured, however, I did dine at The Melting Pot with people who had been to truly authentic fondue restaurants in Paris. My expectations were high, and I was let down. The location and ambience are great. The menu was confusing, the prices too steep, and the selections somewhat limited. I would have preferred a simple cheese fondue for the whole meal, not the oil that you get to burn yourself on. Not a place for kids. more

Way overpriced for poor service! 3/22/2003

The idea is cute. The atmosphere was nice. It took 3 hours for 6 of us to eat and get out of there. Good thing we didn't have movie tickets! We could not understand how the dinner work and the server recommended the special for us newbies. We said okay. We should have asked the price because it was $88 for every 2 people. The server was very nice and showed us what to do, but there was huge lag times between courses. And we were stuck with an automatic 18% gratuity on this huge bill we didn't know we were racking up on service that was not that great! Pros: Nice Atmosphere Cons: Expensive, Poor service more

Fun for friends 3/13/2003

It's a bit pricey, but a very enjoyable place to eat. We've wanted to go to one since seeing the one in Littleton CO. It lived up to the reputation. Good food and fun for a group. It's just too bad there the seating is not set up for groups. Don't go for romance, but a fun evening with several others. more

Fondue again! 1/22/2003

Glad I made reservations well in advance, by the time we got there our table seemd like the only one left in the restraunt. As soon as we sat down I could tell why this restraunt was so busy. They had a great atmosphere, an original idea, and excellent service. By the time dinner was over we were great friends withour server. I'll definately be back! Pros: Food, Service, Atmosphere Cons: Pricy, Not good for kids more

Fondue=""Fun""due 1/22/2003

The Melting Pot was Awesome!!! We had an awesome server who explained everything quite thoroghly. I was glad we made reservations cause we got a table immediately and the restraunt was extremely full when we got there. The food was great and I believe The Melting Pot has the best wine list in Salt Lake City. Pros: Service, Ambience, Cheese Cons: Need Reservations more

No room for paying customers? 1/10/2003

I called the Melting Pot to make reservations, but was told they were booked. I decided to stop by anyway to see if they was an opening. There were only two diners in the whole restaurant and they told us they did not have any openings for the next five hours. The couple in line before us was turned away too. I can't understand the marketing strategy behind turning away paying customers when the entire restaurant was empty. Maybe they are going for an exclusive, ""private club"" reputation. If so, they succeeded because I will exclude them from my dining list in the future. more

sucky sucky 12/15/2002

1. awful service. our waitress was really put out that she had to explain the process to us. she was truly annoyed, even though that was in fact her job. 2. although we had a reservation for 7:00, our tables weren't ready until 7:30. 3. i've paid less for fondue in switzerland. holy cow, what a ripoff. 4. if you get the ""hot oil"" fondue entree, be forewarned that you will leave the restaurant reeking of hot meaty oil. 5. speaking for myself, my husband, and 3 other couples that were there with us, we will NOT return. Pros: nice setting, novel concept Cons: ripoff, worst service more

How much? 12/14/2002

Great food. Friendly service. Definitely expensive... luckily I brought the credit card! Really tasty and a fun place to eat with lots of spare time to visit with your date. Next time, I think we'll probably just go for dessert (the best part!) Pros: Fun atmosphere, Good food, Original and fun Cons: A bit overpriced more

Overpriced! 10/30/2002

I went to the Melting Pot for my b-day and I wasn't terribly impressed for what we got. We spent $80 without a dessert for 2 people! You have to cook the entree yourself, which I didn't pay $80 for. I would just but my own fondue pot and make my own for that kind of money and be able to enjoy it for life, not one night! Pros: atmosphere Cons: overpriced more

awesome but pricey 10/27/2002

great place fun atmosphere just a little on the expensive side really cool idea and origianl i love it more

Fondue is a Fond-must! 10/24/2002

The food is excellent-- the service even better! It's food ""outside the box"". Your waiter makes your cheese fondue at your table and didnt' seem to mind a few questions and few laughs. We had a larger group, 6 and had to share 2 pots at our table. The only thing that could make the experience any better would be more pots for bigger groups. If you like to have a fun dining experience or would like a nice glass of wine with your meal--this is the place. OPEN YOUR MIND! Pros: Unique eating treat, cozy atmosphere, fun service Cons: parking distance, more pots needed, skip salad more

really romantic 10/16/2002

It's a really nice restaurant, good food, good service, the girls in the front were not nice, no parking Pros: good food, romantic, good waitress Cons: no parking, bad front service, expensive more

Worth the price 10/5/2002

I thought this was a great restaurant. It was a lot of fun, and the food was excellent. I would recommend this to anyone, sure it is a bit pricy but well worth it. Pros: Good Food, Friendly Service, Grea Ambience Cons: Pricey more
