Melrose Bar and Grill

WOW! My husband and I approached our favorite Doug Arango's and saw that our favorite place from Palm Springs was gone. Our hearts sank. And then we went in and what a shock!! Not only the same owners, but a beautiful, new, hip, GORGEOUS restaurant. When we saw the new menu, we freaked out. Chef Chris Bennett has created another masterpiece. I am not a bar and grill fan but this is hardly that. This creative menu is not only reasonably priced but mouthwatering and delicious. Everything we tried was A+, however, we especially loved the Berkshire Pork Chop cider brined served Alsatian style with house cured sauerkraut. The pizzas are still the same but seem to taste even better in this new, light atmosphere. Gone is that old, heavy old world decor which is now replaced with a vibrant, California look. We didn't wait long on our first visit, but when we returned with friends on Saturday night, we ended up at the bar for thirty minutes which we didn't mind, considering Bob Evans superb wine and beer list. Note to self: MAKE RESERVATIONS! Same great owners, same exceptional food!!! New name but still on my A list of LA restaurants!! GO!! Pros: Everything is superb! Loved it!! I love the new casual atmosphere and the incredibly inexpensive prices. There a few new items on the menu, like the pretzel and sausage appetizer. This tasty treat was so good that after splitting one, my friend and I ordered another. I had the Maui burger, which was mouth-watering. more

This is a wonderful restaurant, newly redecorated in a stylish contemporary manner with charming warmth and hospitality. The food is excellent and definitely varied enough to keep regular patrons returning time and time again. You won't be disappointed. more

I highly recommend this place for a casual lunch or dinner joint. You can go in gym clothes, like I often do. The prices are very low for this neighborhood and the quality is top notch. Casual fun vibe, and great specials ( Iloved the sea bass putenesca). Pizza is a must have and french fries are perfection. It's also not the old biiddy crowd of the old reatsaurant.
