Don't try this small Mexican cafe on Reseda Boulevard. Why? Because the great food and reasonable prices mean it's already too popular and I can't get a table! Really, if you don't know Melody's you are missing a treat.
Uppers: Come for the food. Everything is good and the prices are tough to beat. For two entrees expect around $15. Portions are good. This is very casual dining with an outside patio (really close to the parking lot and with a view of Jiffy Lube!) and a dozen tables inside. Surprisingly for such a low price place, it is nicely decorated and tries to have some ambiance (no fluorescent lights). Order at the counter from the menu overhead, grab a table, help yourself to salsa at the salsa bar and in a few minutes the food is delivered to your table. Try the salpicon tostada or quesadilla poblana.
Downers: The place is small so fighting for a parking space is sometimes tough, especially if the phone company worker's white vans have tied up half the spaces while they eat lunch. The line at the counter can get long when busy and some people grab a table before they've ordered, leaving those who have ordered waiting with a tray for a table. Order first, find a table second people! It can get noisy when busy. And I'd love silverware instead of plastic utensils.
Overall, the food is good, cheap and the atmosphere is pleasant. Their downfall is their deserved popularity. So skip it next time you're hungry and make some space for me!
Pros: Food, price
Cons: Parking, sometimes very busy
