I first tried the Mekong restaurant 8 years ago when they first opened at that location. Food was great. At that time only had typical Chinese food. I went three different times in the same week and each time tried a new item from the menu.
Day one I ate Pork Fried rice, a shrimp egg roll and a cup of wonton soup. I could not believe how fresh everything was. Most places like this dont make fresh fried rice for every customer. I talked to the owner/chef which is the only person that prepares and cooks every meal. The broth of the wonton soup was so great tasting I had to find out why, the owner told me she refuses to take short cuts and always makes real chicken stock for her soups. I was surprise because most places substitute the homemade with the canned broth other cost and time saving ways. Then she told me that most places will make a big container of fried rice at noon and serve it the rest of the day and just add what ever meat the cust wants, not her way of doing things. Every meal has to be made from scratch she said in broken english. I havent had a meal that good in a long time.
Fast forward 8 years and i moved back to the south hills and was pleased to see that the mekong was still there. On monday may 7th I went back for dinner. I noticed that had added some Vietnamese Items to there menu, so i tried the Pho and some chicken mekong noodles,
The pho was so great the i couldnt stop eating it. The owners daughter told me that it is a dine in item only and couldnt be taken out. I definitely understand why. The mekong noodles with chicken was a meal that looked so big on the plate and when i was eating it i couldnt stop eating it. It was so tasty and yet after a big bowl of pho i was full. When i tasted the mekong noodles reguardless of how much i had eaten already i couldnt stop until it was gone.
Im so glad i moved back to this area and would glady recommend this restaurant to everybody.
