We hired McAfee to re-roof our garage. His work was competent but he did not truly finish off the job completely and his price was very high. To give you a little more detail...
McAfee quoted us a price for the roof - $3760 - which seemed high but we wanted a good quality job so we agreed. He stated the job would take 1-2 days to complete.
When he came to complete the work, McAfee found some wood on the overhang of the roof was rotted. He recommended replacing - the cost for removing and replacing this wood was as follows: $1750 for removal, $258 for removing gutter, $375 for replacement of the wood and $420 for a skip (which was half full when it arrived). I am quoting these figures from the invoice. Hence the removal and replacement of 43 feet of wood cost $2803 which seems very high. The wood was left unpainted and the gutter was not replaced - to be fair I do not think these items were discussed in the quote but they were needed to finish the job adequately.
The job overall did not take any longer than the original quote 1-2 days. Hence while McAfee's work seems competent I am hesitant to recommend him due to his pricing. I believe very strongly that people should be paid fairly for their labor but since the time involved to complete the job here was the same as the original quote I feel that the cost of the additional work was excessive. I have no idea what the material costs were as while I asked for a breakdown of labor and materials costs it could not be provided by McAfee.
