Great for toddlers 4/8/2006

I first took my daughter to the McWane center the day after she turned one. I was so excited to see that they had a special area just for kids under 4. It has a water table, an over sized garden with gigantic mushrooms and corn stalks with tunnels to climb in and out, a jungle gym play zone with three levels (this is like the ones at McDonalds but more educational), a imagination room with mini grocery store, library, cars and trucks, and tables to work puzzles from 3 pieces to 100 pieces. It also has an area for babies under two with huge styrofoam blocks to climb on, block stackers, and an assortment of educational based toys. On the lower level there is a mini aquarium that my daughter has always been fascinated by. It definitely is a place for kids of all ages. more

McWane Center 3/20/2006

My children and grandchildren love the McWane Center from the Titanic exhibit to the shark exhibits there is never a dull moment inside the McWane Center. The employees are nice and the center itself is large and clean. The exhibits change monthly and we try to catch as many as possible. The location is near down town and parking is easy to I use valet parking just to make life a little easier. All exhibits include souvenirs available for purchase at the quaint little shop inside the McWane Center. You won't be disappointed with a visit anytime. more

A fun place for all ages. 11/30/2005

Located on the Northside next to the historic Alabama Theater, the McWane Center is a great place to spend your day. You can play with the educational and scientific gadgets that they have set up, you can watch an IMAX movie, or you can catch them at any given month with a special exhibit (the Titanic exhibit was great!). The prices vary, depending on if you're traveling with a large group. Don't buy lunch in the cafe, however, it's so expensive! But this is a great place, for the young and old. more

So Much Fun 11/23/2005

The Mcwane Center is truly fun for all ages. My favorite part about thisplace is the imax theatre. It is amazing! It puts you in the center of the action and makes you feel as if you are really there. It was a lot of fun and they have very friendly employees. It is also a great place to take the kids...of any age!! more

Great family time! 8/21/2005

The McWane Center is great for a Family Day outing! We have enjoyed it, not too fast paced, and we can just spend the amount of time that we want, and then head out. The exhibits are great, and so educational, but the kids don't even realize they are learning.......just amazed at everything. Food in the Grille is good too! And reasonably priced. Lots of events happening here. more

Investigate the mysteries of the ocean depths, probe into the wonders of science, invent your own wacky gadgets or see a movie that's five stories tall. Create your own family adventure or ask about group trips and special events. Once you discover all that McWane Center has to offer, you'll visit again and again. more

Science and fun, mostly for kids 8/17/2005

The McWane Center is a science-exploration museum tied to an Imax theater.Their features include a water/ocean center that has a fair number of fish and some instructional displays on water ecosystems. There is a section called "Just Mice Size" with enlarged "everything." There are quite a bit of things for kids to play with, giant blocks, Lego-centers, a bed of nails where you can lie down on nails and realize that you feel no pain and don't get cut, a small biology lab. This is a superb place to take the kids on a rainy day. I do learn a small amount of science here as an adult but it is pretty digested down to kid-size so don't come here for an intensive science education as an adult. more

Good for the kids 8/13/2005

The McWane Center is located next to the historic Alabama Theater in downtown Birmingham. The center is a science museum with lots of hands on activities for children and adults, although adults may get a bit bored quickly with most of the activities. The IMAX theater is very impressive, and the only IMAX in town. The IMAX usually will show most of the first-run IMAX movies. more
