Worst Bakery I've ever used. 9/12/2010

Since I live in the Dallas area I asked for recommendations for a bakery in Abilene. I reviewed their website and was not impressed but did not find anything that looked any better in Abilene. I called ahead to make sure I could get what I needed but felt I was not being understood and was told that if I came in on Thursday and brought a picture of a cake that I wanted that it would be plenty of time to get the cake done by Saturday. Then I was treated like I was imposing when I went to the store on Thursday which was two days before I needed the cake. I gave specific instructions for the cake I wanted. I was told I could not pick it up until just two hours before the birthday party for which I was purchasing the cake. When I went to pick it up I was horrified. It was the ugliest cake I have ever seen. I was given excuses about the humidity being the cause of the fondit not working the way it should. The fondit was uneven as well as streaked with other colors than the hot pink that it was suppose to be. It was patched together as well. What was suppose to be a pink ribbon had black polka dots on it that were suppose to be only on the cake and they were not done well and were strung out on some of them. This cake was for my mother's 80th birthday. I am so sorry I used this bakery. If this is the best Abilene has to offer then they should get out of the business. I think this cake was baked in someone's home and not by any real baker. I originally saw an example of the cake I wanted at Albertsons. Apparently they hire real bakery chefs. The cake itself was awful as well. It had very littly flavor and although it wasn't dry it was hard to swallow. I'm embarrassed that this was the cake I had to offer my 80 year old mother. Shame on McKay's bakery for offering their services to the public and not putting out a decent product. Wish I had bought the cake at Albertsons in Dallas and taken my chances on traveling with it. more

One of the Best !! 4/9/2006

I have been visiting McKays Bakery for a number of years now, and the lunch is the quick and very tasty. If you work downtown or are just visiting, go on over and order a sandwich, drink and a pastry and you'll agree that the Greens do a remarkable job providing good food and wonderful service. more

Good but not great 12/30/2005

McKay's has conveinent locations and they offer quick service. However, their cookies and cakes are not great. They aren't bad just not the best, in my opinion. There service is friendly and the establishment is clean. The downtown location is particularly conveinent if you are working there and down there for an event. I have not ordered anything other than cookies or cakes so I can't review the other food items. more

Bakery 12/28/2005

This has got to be one of the best bakeries around! They have the best in cookies and cakes. They are always so fresh! You can just smell the cakes when you walk in, just like I used to as a child. If you are looking for home cooked pastries or cakes, I have to say this is the place. They are on the high side in price, but worth it for the freshness and good taste! more
