I had been working intense 12-16hr days for a couple of weeks with no breaks. My one night out. This Sunday evening, I wanted to relax, have dinner and beer while watching the football game which wasn't a big draw for this bar. I was in a good mood because I was out with a friend, enjoying time off from work. We decided on a place close to where I lived & I had heard rave reviews from other friends about this place.
What a HUGE disappointment! First, I had absolutely never been treated by a waitress like I had in this place. The first mark against was being told that I had to not only order but to pick up my food in the far end corner of the bar. What the hell are these waitresses for? Aren't wait staffs supposed to handle food orders too? But we were hungry, wanted to chill out and just "dealt with" going up to order.
We both ordered our beers and then enjoyed them, got our food quickly because, yes, that's right, we had to go to bar ourselves and get the food. At this point I ordered another round of beers. I usually order Guiness and well, yes, of course it takes a bit longer to get a Guiness from the tap. But 40 minutes?
We saw the waitress chatting away with other patrons, we noticed she only had about 4 tables where one table had 6 people, the rest were 2 people tables. The whole bar was hardly populated. Then she was hanging out at the bar chit chatting. At one point, my friend stopped her while walking by and asked about the beer. "I'll go check at the bar". And we continued to wait. As we were finishing with our meal, I got more angry as she kept walking by us. Finally I stopped her, told her I wanted our check and she could cancel our beer order because she blew us off. She then said to me, "have YOU ever DONE this job?" Are you kidding me? Don't pull this crap with me. I was so not in the mood for this kind of behavior. I told her that she was not doing her job and I went to the manager and explained that I didn't want her fired...I don't ever want that to happen but she needed serious customer service training.
The manager was very kind, offering to pay for the meal. But I told him, "no, this is a business, I will pay for the meal, but nothing for the service since no service was given to us". But I also informed him that I wouldn't be back because I wouldn't want to be treated like that again!
Overall, I didn't feel welcomed and end up going other places. I am a very good tipper too, because YES, I do know how hard wait staff work.
Pros: Manager tried to be helpful but damage was done
Cons: Waited over an 40 min for a beer
