Mazza the Restaurant with Horrible Service 7/25/2011

I don't think I've ever had such bad service. I walked in on a busy Friday and was seated to wait for a table. The host came and asked if we wanted drink menus to start us off while we waited. Then he never came back!!!!! 20 minutes later he looks over and remembers we're sitting there (I saw him look and go ""Oh crap..."") and comes back to offer wine menus. I almost walked out. I had already dealt with my thirst by that point. I was seated then to the profuse apologies of my server. The food was ok, but below par of what is authentic middle eastern. Dry chicken with some sauce tossed on it on a bed of lettuce. I was not impressed or even glad to taste it. My martini and view of the street was about the only thing to make up for the service and food. more

Love it!!! 6/27/2010

This is one of Salt Lake City's gems. It's a locally owned place where everyone takes a lot of pride in their work. Everyone from the chefs to the wait staff are invested in providing a great dining experience. I just want to say Thank You to all of them for making this one of my favorite places to dine. Pros: Delicious food, great staff, and good atmosphere. Cons: None. more

What happened to all the reviews?? 9/3/2009

There used to be dozens of reviews for Mazza on Citysearch, most of them 4- and 5- star reviews from satisfied customers over many years. Where did they all go?? Very strange that only a 2005 review and a 2008 review remain. Fishy. Perhaps a payoff to Citysearch personnel by a competing restaurant, tired of Mazza repeatedly winning local dining awards? Makes me very sad that a restaurant so widely praised as one of Salt Lake's best is so poorly represented here. I hope if it was just a glitch in the system that the old reviews can be restored. Anyway, I am one of those longtime and very satisfied customers. In my many visits to both Mazza locations the service has always been friendly and very good (though I prefer the cozier original location), the food uniformly delicious (shawarma! baba ganooj! the list goes on!), and the prices very reasonable. The only time I've been known to head to another restaurant when given the option of going to Mazza is if I'm pressed for time -- the price you pay for freshly prepared food is a bit more prep time. But most days it's well worth the wait. This food's as good as any I ate while living in the Middle East, and the air conditioning's far better....if I ever have to leave Salt Lake I'll shed more than a few tears over losing Mazza. Pros: Extensive menu, delicious and fresh Middle Eastern flavors Cons: Fresh, quality food takes time to prepare... more

Wonderful Atmosphere, Wine, and Food... 8/17/2009

I've eaten here several times and the food is wonderful. Good humus, and bread, and wonderful dishes with an interesting mix of spices. They have and excellent selection of wine as well. I always have a very comfortable and fun experience at Mazza. Pros: Great Wine, Atmosphere and Service Cons: ?? more

Enjoyed it 6/16/2009

I'm not from the middle east, so I can't say whether it tasted authentic or not, but as an American, I really enjoyed the food. My group of three tried several different sides, a main dish and a dessert for only $42, including tip. After eating here, I decided to make my own hummus and tabouleh. I'd definitely go back. Pros: Yummy food, quiet atmosphere and location more

Not Authentic like Claimed 3/28/2009

I am almost ashamed to say I ate here! Being Lebanese, and coming here with my Family from Lebanon, California, and New York I was embarrassed! We had about 8 different plates including the samplers. There was absoultely no flavor or too much garlic and lemon. Honestly its not hard to mess up middle eastern food if you know what your doing. Anyways after a very unhappy meal I began to look around at the decor, however this was before I had been to the cedars of Lebanon and saw there atmosphere!! It looked like a copy, but I believe Mazza has been open for 4 years and the cedars for 25+!hmm I wonder were they got there decor ideas from??? Anywho as we were leaving very disipointed I found out why the food was bad! 3 Hispanic Chefs WOW thats as Middle Eastern as it gets. IF you want real food not MAZZA trying to pass off GARBAGE as Lebanese. I highly Recommend for the sake of the lebanese culture go to CEDARS OF Lebanon Pros: location Cons: FOOD, Service more
