The SceneWith the loss of booker and indie-rock impressario Tod Abramson in 1996, the club sagged a bit in presenting local and touring indie-rock bands before they hit big. After a period of different ownership, mediocre bands and microbrews, Abramson returned to helm the club alongside Sonic Youth drummer Steve Shelley and musician Dave Post. The DrawThe little wooden room and small stage still provide a surprisingly good venue for excellent rock music, and the sound system fulfills its duty, but the club has moved with Hoboken in general toward a more mainstream ambience. But there's still good beer, warm atmosphere, decent pub grub and enough intriguing sounds to make Maxwell's worth a bus or PATH ride cross the Hudson.
