Yikes. Let me start by saying that the owner of this salon, Ronit, is one of the nicest people ever, and she hires really nice people. On my first visit, I was impressed with her. My highlights were good but pricey; the haircut was mediocre but pricey; and they pushed products on me, but everyone was so nice that I went back to give them a second chance. The second time they were offering a promotion where you could get weekend lashes done with a haircut. The cut was terrible - when I got home, my husband asked if they had even cut my hair - and when I went to get a real cut at a different place the stylist showed me how my hair had been cut lopsidedly, with uneven layers. Worse, as I discovered later, the makeup artist attached the fake lashes to my lashes instead of to my eyelids. She told me they would come off in a few days. Three weeks later I was still trying to get the fake lashes off because of the absurd amount of glue she used. Finally, my horrified esthetician recommended baby oil, which worked, although I ended up losing most of my own eyelashes in the process. I couldn't justify going back again after this no matter how nice the people were. I might expect this from a cheap salon, but it cost close to $400 to get decent highlights, a terrible haircut, and to lose my eyelashes. more

I've been hoping to find a salon for my thick curly hair. Maxime Salon had pretty good reviews and since the owner has curly hair I gave it a try. Initial impression, wow! Friendly staff, consultation area away from the service area, it appeared that I hit the jackpot. Excellent shampoo with head massage, a quick wet cut with another consultation by the owner. Then the trouble began. The owner, Ronit, had a side conversation with the assistant who wisked me away for a 'hair facial'. I was treated to a luxurious deep conditioning treatment with two different products; oil then shea butter under the dryer for my very dry hair. Another shampoo & head massage and 20 minutes later, I was ready for a blow-out with the assistant - another 10 to 15 minutes. After my hair was stick straight, Ronit came back over to do a dry cut to polish the style. I was then sold two products - shown about 6 for my dry hair but at $28+ a pop I bought only 2. Then my jaw dropped when they told me the cost for a haircut, deep conditioning and blow out, with 2 products, $195!!!!!!! The problem with all of this was simply this: When I booked, I asked specifically for an expert in cutting and styling curly hair - I left Maxime with stick straight hair! No one listened to me; the receptionist, the shampoo assistant, Ronit's assistant, or Ronit! I spent quite a bit of time explaining to everyone that I did not want to heat damage my hair any more and wanted to work with my natural curl. I specifically asked when I booked for a professional with experience in cutting & styling curly hair. I was disappointed because although the cut DOES work with curly hair, I did not know it until I got home and wet my own hair down and styled it myself - after paying $195 for a cut, deep condition and 2 products! My hair was stick straight when I left that salon..... Pros: Haircut is fine after all Cons: From start to finish no one listened to me or what I wanted! more

This salon is beautiful - trendy - stylish The haircuts I got there were not sylish They were done by ordinary run of the mill hairstylers. I used to go because of an expert colorist who has since left. Now I go down to another local salon - pay 1/2 the money - get my hair cut by the owner - and feel great about all the savings. If I could do it all over again, I would never have made a first appointment at Maxime. I could have saved myself thousands of dollars. I can't tell you how Happy I was with my experience at your Salon. In all my years of having my hair done (trust me it's been ALOT!!!) I have NEVER experienced anything like it. From start to finish it was AMAZING. Pros: everything about the place Cons: ? more

The staff is personal,\r and importantly, continue to ask if you need any additional items,\r coffee, water, etc. They keep you informed about what they\r are going to do, and how long each segment will take. For busy\r people, this is especially important.\r \r Kelly is my colorist...and she has been doing my hair for about\r 4 months. She is excellent, has a professional approach and ensures\r you are satisfied with the color before you walk out the door at the end\r of your visit. Cassie has been cutting my hair -- great attitude,\r upbeat, sure of herself, and most importantly, gives a great cut.\r \r The extras that Maxime provides are a huge asset. I walked into Maxime Salon one afternoon before my scheduled hair appointment on Newbury Street with quite a few inquiries. The owners husband was there and answered the questions I had and gave me a trifold of services and prices. I decided to give Maxime a try. For my color I was scheduled with the owner Ronit and she did a great job however the person I had my cut with could not perform up to my expectations. I expressed my dissatisfaction and Ronit immediately stepped in to solve the problem. She came through with flying colors. I have been going there for over a year and enjoy it every time I go. The staff is extremely friendly and go out of their way to help you. I originally went there to try and cut down on the cost from Newbury St. however, receive equal service. I don't know that I have saved that much in cost but the quality is great. The salon always has a lot of energy and exciting conversations. I just moved to the south shore from the city.I was very hesitant about going to a new salon because i have been going to the same salon on newbury street for 8 years.A friend referred me to maxime salon and i am very happy that i listened to her advice. Smiles,smiles,smiles.Everyone there was so friendly.The consultation was extremely thorough and they gave me their honest opinion and worked with my budget and what would actually look the best for me. I look forward to my next appointment!!! more

Best haircut on The South Shore! It's tough to find a place that provdies quality, a nice environment... and does a great job. Maxime is a sure thing if you're looking for a Newbury Street style haircut south of the city. Great job at a great price... You can't beat it, I haven't been disappointed since I started going there 6 months ago! more

I went to this salon HIGHLY reccomended, but in the end i would say it fell extremely short! Many of the stylists were not experianced, when trying to state what i wanted to do to my hair they said"" yup, yup!"" But never explained to me what they were going to do! After sitting around a table full of stranger while having color on my head and not being relax, I thought it couldn't get any worse. It did, While laying in the sink , i was soak down my back, and freezing. Once I sat in the chair to look at my color, it was nothing like I had wanted, it was brassy and orange!They then saw my reaction and said they need to fixed the color.Again i was left to see what the outcome would be, after reassuring me that it would be fine.Once again i was disappointed to see my hair had this red-purple to it! Leaving there with a awful color and paying a price that should have not been, I would never reccamend this to anyone... more

While recently visiting family in MA, I was in dire need of a cut and color. I did my homework and went to Maxime Salon in Hingham, MA. Melissa was the stylist who performed a miracle on my hair! She was AWESOME!!! She sat down and got to know me, as well as recommend highlights which would compliment my fair skin. Unlike other stylists I have gone to, Melissa was not pushy and really listened to my likes and dislikes. It's the most important quality that I look for in a stylist, which she definitely had. She also did a beautiful job on the cut and blow-dry so that I felt great for a get-together that night. I am so glad that I took a chance with Maxime Salon, and with Melissa. I plan to visit MA again in a couple of months. Until then, I don't plan on letting anyone else touch my hair. Pros: Quality of results and professional atmosphere! more

Maxime Salon is such a great place! The staff makes you feel like your in a five star restaurant, everyone is so personable and fun to be around. My whole look was livened up with beautiful multi-dimensional highlights, I got great shampoo that leaves my hair silky smooth for days later! Its so hard to find a great salon that gives you such a great experience! I will never leave this wonderful place, why mess with a good thing? I had such a nice time at Maxime, the staff made made me feel so welcomed, everybody was so friendly and very professional, Maxime designed the salon to create best terms for color application success, I left the salon with a great hair color, most relaxing shampoo,and great hair cut, what ales can I ask for? thank you Maxime . After a bad experience with highlights many years ago I was hessitant to get my hair colored again, however, many stylists kept telling me it would look amazing... so after grueling research on colorists in the Providence area, I picked Marc Harris (Prov) to get my hair colored by the 'king of peroxide' according to allure. Needless to say I was less than thrilled, I walked out with maron-ish hair when I wanted a richer brown. I ended up jetting home to Boston to get my hair fixed asap. Again I looked up some salons...this time for a corrective colorist (haha) and I came across Maxime and got an appointment that day and I have been going there ever since. more

I was getting sick of the newbury street scene so I went looking for a new salon. I didnt want a step down but I just couldnt do newbury anymore. I found Maxime and I couldnt be happier with the results. The place is nice and clean, and the staff is extremely helpful. I have been going to Maximes since 2001 when they were in Norwell - from the first time I went I have always loved my hair. Although they are a bit more expensive then other 'Suburban' salons, IT IS WORTH IT. I do not have to find parking in Boston and put aside a whole day to schedule my hair anymore. The staff is friendly and fun and very professional. I think the colorists are magnificent - my color lasts a long time and always is perfect. The new location is beautiful and very relaxing. Living on the South Shore, I had been getting my hair colored and styled on Newbury Street but decided to try Maxime after reading about them in Best of Boston. Some of the things I appreciated about the salon are: the products - they use Bumble and Bumble and Davines. The atmosphere - very pleasant. I also liked that they sent email confirmation for appointments and enjoyed reading Ronit's newsletter. Parking is accessible as well. Maxime's prices are inline with what I paid on Newbury Street. My first experience was the best - Ronit, the owner, spent time going over my color and cut. I happily re-booked. My subsequent visits were different. Once, even though my cut was booked with Ronit, when I arrived, I was told that she was no longer cutting hair, and I was referred to a ""senior stylist."" I have never been more disappointed with a hair cut. I left with uneven layers and one side being longer than the other. I went back within a few days and asked if the stylist could ""fix"" my cut. The result was a very short cut which did look much better but I had been trying to let my hair grow out. I returned another time, and got what I rate just an average style/cut. After deciding that Maxime's services were not worth the prices I was being charged, I went to another salon and there, the stylist told me that my hair had been over-processed, and that I had significant hair breakage. Maxime salon is the best salon I have ever been too in my life! Ronit's bubbly personality and welcoming smile makes you feel right at home. Each stylist adds their own unique twist to hip and trendy hair fashions. Everyone is so nice there, I feel like the center of attention. I walked into the salon looking like a complete reck with long, stringy, yellow hair with 3 inches of mousy brown roots and walked out of the salon with beautiful beach blond waves, shining as bright as the sun. The charasmatic atmosphere transforms ugly ducklings into instant fashion stars. I've seen many miracles preformed at this salon, including my own. Although it is a bit pricey at times, you can never put a price on happyness. I highly recomend this awsome salon, it will only bring you joy! Pros: Everything Cons: nothing more

I have been a loyal client of Maxime Salon since it first location. I am not too proud to admit that I am extremely high-maintance about my hair and when I lived out of state in another big city for a time, I would fly up to have my hair highlighted and cut by the owner as I have never been able to find a colorist or cut in any of the super-high end, uber-expensive city salons that even came close to the results I get at Maxime. The owner listens to me and my concerns every time with patience and care and I always walk out with what I wanted and then some! She also keeps it healthy and shiny, despite the torture I put it through. I have never been pressured to buy any products. I have sent many firends and family members to Maxime and they have all turned into loyal customers, as well. more
