Maurizio's Authentic Italian Cuisine

I just went there for my birthday with my gf yesterday, and remembered how good this place is.\r \r I've lived in the area for a while now, but before I discovered Maurizio's, I always drove to Santa Cruz or SF for great Italian food... Maurizio's is a great authentic Italian restaurant that Morgan Hill can be proud to have. \r \r The place is not too fancy, but has a good balance where you can go there on a date, or go with the family.\r \r Maurizio is usually in the kitchen and will great guests on occasion as they enter the restaurant or sit down... A great little touch, and you can tell that he's really passionate about his place. It's really a great restaurant and should definitely be given a shot if you're a true fan of good food.\r \r Perhaps it's a little bit on the pricier side when talking about Italian food, but it's nothing really worth mentioning.\r \r Give it a shot. A group of eight of us went to the restraunt with tastes ranging from vegetarian to ""I eat anything"" appitites. We chose family style so we could taste a number of dishes. We allowed the chef to choose our dishes and wine and found all selections excellent. For appitizers we had polenta, egg plant, calamari and I absoltuely loved the egg plant - would make even those who think they don't like egg plant a true lover of it. For dinner we were served a varieity of pastas, seafood platter, lamb and halibut. My sister hates fish but Maurizio told her the only reason she hates fish is because it wasn't ""his fish"" - well she absolutely LOVED the halibut! \r Food was excellent, staff was absolutely great - I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who wanted fantastic authentic Italian food at very reasonalbe prices with a typical Italian atmosphere! I can't say enough about this place. I have read all the reviews, and I think Steve-2006 must of had a bad day or can't be pleased no matter what. All businesses have their good and bad days, but for all this to happen in one for him is impossible at this place. Every time We entertain a guest or visitor we ALWAYS go see Maurizio, Sarah , the kids and fabulous staff. My mother after a year is still talking about her meal to friends when she visited. Every time I am in Morgan Hill I go to this restaurant. I take my clients too! The food is delicious. I'm always amazed at the right blend of flavors, the perfect texture and authentic dishes. Last time I had eggplant wrapped around a light filling with tomato basil sauce, it was so delicate with fresh flavor. I live in SF and I can choose from 50 Italian restaurants any night of the week, but none of them come close to the authentic dishes, flavors and style of Maurizio's. Disappointing food, slow service, and the ambiance of a Chuck E. Cheese made this one of the worst dining experiences in recent memory. Salads and appetizers came out right away, but wait time was 1 hr. from order to entree. The small dining room is way too noisy and has too many tables crammed into it. To add to the distraction, birthdays are celebrated with multi-colored strobe lights and an excruciatingly loud and long rendition of ""Happy Birthday"". Food was at best, flat. Pros: Great place if your interested in party. Cons: No good for quiet romantic dining. more

My friends who are regulars took me for the first time last night. It won't be my last. My meal was fantastic along with what I tried of my friends as well. I had gnocchi with a pork rib in tomato sauce. the pork was fork tender and delicious. The service was fantastic. Unbelievably friendly staff. My friends explained that it is family run. The chef has his father, wife and uncle all working there. I am looking forward to going back and trying something else. more

Maurizios is very consistently good. All menu items are tasty and they have a nice bar and wine selection. more
