Maude's - not just coffee anymore 3/24/2006

Everyone in Hoggetowne knows that Maude's makes a nice cup of coffee, particularly as an alternative to Starbucks across the way. But a lot of people don't realize that Maude's also has food. Really good food. A lot of vegetarian options, too. One warning - they are slow. Don't order food there if you are in a hurry! more

Great alternative to national chains 8/29/2005

I love Maude's café. IT's located right across Starbuck's on downtown Gainesville, and it certainly has a personality that the more mainstream national chain lacks. The variety of coffees is excellent. The desserts are outstanding. Now they have added sandwiches and salads that are worth trying. If it's not too hot outside, it's an excellent place to hang out with friends. You can ask for board games, and spend hours playing with friends. Weekend nights a very good jazz band plays there. Definetily a must in Gainesville!!! more

Great coffee with an attitude 8/12/2005

The best coffee in Gainesville can only be found at Maude's alas it is not always a pleasant experience. The positives are that Maude's offers the traditional European style sidewalk cafe with fine coffees and delicious desserts (best brownies in Gainesville as well). The negatives are that some of the employees, notably the owner himself and multi-colored haired employees who are either of the Beatnik or the Neo-Skateboard subculture, are pretty rude and condescending towards any customer that is not part of their subculture of choice, but it's almost worth it for the good coffee. more
